To all VJ friend

I just checked the CSC web site. As of 9/15/08 the processing time for I-130 I do not see much difference in processing time for a petition filed by USC and PR.

For USC filing for spouse the prodessing date is Feb 01, 2008

For PR filing for spouse the prodessing date is Jan 03, 2008

Now I am wondering what is the advantage of becoming US citizen.

Advantage of becoming US citizen:

Voting rights, travel on US passport.....what else????

Disadvantage:

lost all rights in the country of my birth.

Lost $$$$ -----fee for N-400.

Lost $$$$----- fee for US passport

UNKNOWN:

Social security and medicad benifits at the age of retirements....Gosh...will tehre be any money left with Social Security Admin....

As a USC, your spouse will have an immediately available visa number. As an LPR it would receive a F2A preference which is currently processing visas for petitions approved in December 2003, so an additional 5 year wait (or so) before your spouse would be able to come after petition approval.

That is the difference here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To me the privilege of being a U.S. citizen is self-explanatory. I certainly don't see millions of people trying to get into other countries any way possible

No doubt traveling with US passport is a privilage.

Thanks buddy for clarification. I misunderstood the concept of processing time.

Yes CSC may be processing then at similar times, HOWEVER ones the petitions reach NVC, the ones from PR (F2A) will be placed in storage until a visa number comes up, but the ones from US citizens will be processed through because Spouses of US citizens get Unlimited Visa Priority (IR-1 or CR-1).

Agree with Jasman. They are self explanatory.

Did you know that as a LPR you can be deported for minor crimes? Here is the link to an article about the topic.

http://hrw.org/english/docs/2007/07/18/usdom16402.htm

Also, the the past Congress has proposed laws that would cut benefits such as special assitance for the elderly, etc to Legal Permanent Residents.

And there are a couple hundred million people that happen to be U.S. citizens by virtue of birth! I don't think those people would want to become LPRs!

Since we are on this topic, the rumor is all the people who are on H1B visa can bring thier wife as soon as they get married. They dont have to wait while most of us have this painful waiting period. Lot of relative from my wife's family brought there spouses like that. I do understand they all are non-immigrant visa but who cares as long as they are together and she doesnt mind sitting at home without able to work and neither do I. But I dont have any other argument to tell her being US citizen I have any advantage over H1B visa holder in terms of bringing our spouses.

I hope they can pass a law where a spouse can be given a non-immigrant visa right away and than do all the rest paperwork in this country. There will be arguments about the possible fraud stuff but government still have checks such as giving a CR visas and AOS etc. They could still deport if they find something wrong in normal cases so why cant they apply the same thing for by issuing an quick visa for spouses and have these checks in places.

Another thing of shame: My wife and I got married within the same week her brother got married with British citizen. She applied visa for him after getting back to UK and he got the visa in 2 weeks. And I am considering these 2 countries have about the same privaleges by living there in terms of standard of life. So its not like here people get extra advantage by getting visa for USA compare to UK.

Please dont take these arguments as not loving USA and please dont tell me to move out because I have seen this response in some chauvinistic people on this forum, I am just venting as any other person which I have the right to do as a citizen.

You should understand that H1B visa caragory is the best money making way of coming here and lawyers are so happy for this. What is the percentage of USC using a lawyer to process their application?

I am sure there is somthing behind these walls as H1B Visa has been improved and lawyers have invested too much for it.

+This is not the only subject which doesn't make sense about USCIS and the rest of the crew.

Have you checked dual-citizenship?

Sadly, India doesn't allow dual citizenship. Though Indian government does allow Overseas Citizenship of India, which gives a great deal of benefits to people who were once Indian, but still its not the same as being a Citizen.
