signature(s) for the cover letter for the docs to send to the immigration office

Maybe it sounds a silly question, but for your experience, who sent already the docs fort he 10 yr GC, the cover letter must be signed only by the US citizen, or by both, the US citizen & the spouse not US citizen?

What's the best way you suggest?

Hi Daphne2109,

For my situation, both my husband (the USC) and I (the immigrant spouse) wrote and signed the cover letter, the application form, and the extra explaination notes together, because it was joint petition filed together we figured it was best to have both of our signatures on all of the paperwork.

However, I was the one that signed (even though I didn't really want to, but figured it was easier to do as it was mainly my application) the cheque/check from our joint bank account since only one person can sign it. But if they allowed it, we probably would have both signed it (though it stated both of our names in the corner, so I guess that's kind of like both of us signing it)

Lol..to make the paperwork filing less boring and less stressful on one spouse, think of it as a fun "bonding" activity you and your spouse can both do together instead....

We never included a cover letter so there was nothing to sign.

I believe then I will sign too togehter with my husband, who is the USC.

I like the idea of having eveything signed by both of us.

We did the same thing. My husband and I wrote and signed the cover letter together, since it is a joint application, but I was the one who wrote the cheque on our joint account:-). I figured that might count as additional evidence, although I suspect they don't take photocopies of the cheques before they are cashed so they probably didn't count anyway - but I have a photocopy of it! hehehe.

Likewise, I figured it would count as additional joint evidence too. And yes, like you, I photocopied my cheque before I sent it out and afterwards printed out the cashed-in copy of it from the bank's online banking services. This somewhat obsessive photocopying and printing out (yes, I do this for other important things too) is for my own records and in case for some reason or other they "claim" that they did not receive it and/or it got lost in the mail, and then I can show my "paper proof" if that worst-case situation were to happen. Oh well, I don't have to worry about that now as the cheque got there, it was cashed in, and I have the copies of it. Regardless, it's "Better safe than sorry, to have copies of everything", right? Hmmm...now I have to find a new place to store all that immigration paperwork I've "collected" over the years....

Now then, after they took our money: "Where's the 10yr green card?" Lol...Isn't there some sort of refund policy for my money back if I don't get what I paid for? (just kidding of course, in this situation)

As long as both of you sign the I-751 form you can pretty much handle the cover letter the way you think is best. You do not need to sign the cover letter. In fact, you don't even need a cover letter at all. My wife and I have always just submitted a table of contents that we put on top of our filings and we've never had a problem.
