Chris is staying at a hotel, and just did some laundry. While we were talking on the phone, he said he was taking somebody's stuff out of the dryer cause the load was done and he needed the dryer. I told him, that I always want to do this when I'm waiting, but I'm scared I'll be caught by the person whose laundry I'm touching.

Sure enough, the dude walks in and ask ####### are you doing with my stuff.

busted.

Is there protocol with this kind of stuff? Do you leave it?

absolutely I would remove laundry from a dryer that had finished its dry cycle. If the owner cannot be bothered to wait for their laundry then they can't expect that people will wait for a dryer. If you don't want your laundry touched then stay with it.

Some people mind and some don't...like me.

Anyone can take mine out if I am not there in that moment it is done.

I have, in all my years, only had one person (a woman) tell me off for touching it.

To which I profusely apologized and tried to explain that some people leave their stuff for a long time and...

Well. she didn't like that story (which was true).

What's the big deal.

It's clean!

I've always thought that people would freak out - I mean I've had my laundry taken out and I never care. I think some people just don't like other people touching their personal belongings. Made me laugh though - poor hubby.

The problem with removing a customers clothing from a dryer and placing them in a cart is that the clothes become wrinkled which may cause the customer to become irate and possibly cause an altercation which I have witnessed. Police normally request a sign displayed above the dryers stating any clothing left unattended in the dryers will be removed by the attendant.

I take it out, if you can't wait for your laundry to be done....then its an "at your own risk". Most places put a sign up, Do Not Leave Clothes Unattended".

Back when I lived in the apartment, if I saw the dryer was complete with someone elses cloths, i woul dwait a few min then take thier laundry out and FOLD it

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

You are the person that laundry deserters want to be next in line for the dryer :) I just throw it all in a basket and leave to the side.

Hubby says yes I say NOOOOOO.. so we always fight about it when we go to the laundromat. :) tee hee... we'd make a terrible government!!

I'm just a chicken, so I wouldn't want to face the wrath of the owner of the clothes, but honestly - there are always signs posted.... so i guess it's fair game!! Maybe you could ask the attendant to take out the clothes.. then you are just a tattle tale?

People can be incredibly incosiderate. I know people in my apartment would leave their clothes there for hours. If I really needed it the washer or dryer, I'd take them out and leave them on top of the dryer.

I should have folded them when I think about it.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I have taken laundry out before.. I feel weird doing it but sometimes it just has to be done...

I used to live in this basement suite and I shared the washer and dryer which were downstairs with the girls who lived upstairs.. the one girl would constantly forget her clothes in the washer... so she usually had to wash them over again because they had been sitting there for so long.. if I noticed I would throw them in the dryer... :P

I hate when people take my laundry out - sometimes they'd do it if I were a minute or two late even! But I understand it has to be done, and I do it too. I would never expect that someone fold it though, as I wouldn't fold someone else's either. If you're not there to get it out, then it's your own fault!

That said, our new apt has a washer/dryer in the unit!

If I lived in the same apartment as you two, I'd never take my laundry out. :D

Since we have washer/dryers outside here, I say screw them. If I've had my laundry in the washer fo 30 minutes and waited an extra 15-20 minutes before going down to move them to the dryer and somebody else still has their clothes in the dryer, I'm moving them.

I've seen people forget their clothes in the dryer overnight and into the next afternoon.
