My husband filed for AOS (I-485, I-131, I-765) on Sept 8th and the packet was received in Chicago on Sept 10th.

Yesterday I checked my bank account online and saw a 'Returned Check Fee' posted. I have not written any other checks recently and am sure that the fee is with respect to the $1,010 AOS fee. The funds are available in my account, but for some reason the check was returned (this is a complete other story in and of itself).

So in the mail today, we received the 3 NOA's (with notice date of Sept 15th) for the respective applications. On the receipt for I-485, it states that they received payment of $1,010. My guess is that they sent out the notice before the check was returned to them. Does that sound right?

I am wondering why they didn't reject the application, and I am assuming that they are going to do so in the future.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes to receive the rejected petition? Will they send the entire thing back to us?

Should I resubmit the fee or re-send the entire package with a new check, or just sit and wait to see what happens???

Thanks in advance!

Don't do anything except make sure there is enough money on the account.

Page 8 Instruction for I-485 says:

"You will not receive your original check back. We will destroy your original check, but we will keep a copy of it. If the EFT cannot be processed for technical reasons, you authorize us to process the copy in place of your original check. If the EFT cannot be completed because of insufficient funds, we may try to make the transfer up to two times."

To the best of my knowledge, your applications won't be (Those are applications, not petitions.) returned. They'll just collect the fee.
