Hello Everyone,

My wife is a South African Citizen. She came to the US on a K-1 visa and is currently in the middle of Adjusting her status. I am not sure when her South African Passport expires, but I believe it is in the next year or two. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience in renewing forgien passports while in the US, escpecially South African Passports. I just want to be prepared.

I am currently doing it for my Jamaican husband. Find the nearest embassy or consulate for your country, in the US, and contact them.

For Jamaica, we go through D.C. and they send it on to Jamaica.

The pictures are proving to be a problem for us.....apparently JA passport pictures are not the same as US passport pictures. We've had to go to Sears or The Picture People to get them. Annoying!

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I renewed mine earlier this year through LA, took about 4 months, which wasnt that bad. Tell her to wait until she does the whole name change and then do it then, it will make life much easier. They were very helpful in LA by the way

We just did it with simple picture editing software. The embassy posted dimensions and requirements on the website and we just edited the pics to those specifications. We did it with our I-130 pics too. No problems yet from at least two countries. :D
