Have last minute business trip, do i need to renew my passport yet?

My passport expires in feb 2009.

My business trip is scheduled oct 4th-12th.

I am a green card holder and I read its takes 10 days to get your new passport back.

So i was planning to renew it when i get back.

What should i do?

depends on where you're going to. Some countries require that you have 6 months left on your passport, others don't specify.

I don't think I would worry about it. For an 8 day trip, you will be just fine.

I would imagine the UK was like the US in that they couldn't refuse entry to a citizen. So definitely wait until your return to renew your passport. I thought it took longer than 10 days through the British embassy.

What do you mean by the British Embassy in the UK? Do you mean the British Embassy in the US or the US Embassy in Britain?

If you were a non-resident, they would want your passport to have more valid days than your authorized stay would be... as a greencard holder you are fine.

FWIW, there is no British Embassy in the UK... There is a British Embassy in Washington DC (and several British Consulates in other cities) or a US Embassy to Britain in London (to which cannot do a thing for your passport).

The passport office at the British Embassy in Washington is the only office in the US that can issue full British Passports.

Thanks guys for your replies.

I really didn't want to renew it in the UK, i'd be wasting 4 hours staying in the passport office.

Instead I could spend it with family & friends.
