We finally contacted our local congressman to have him intervene in our N400 process.

Has anybody else written to their representative and if so, what did it achieve?

Curious

Why have you contacted them?

I called USCIS after hearing nothing from them since May (the people at the Buffalo DO said that we should be receiving an interview letter within 90 days after fingerprints) and I was told that we had been scheduled for an interview for late September (never received a letter about that) but the interview was descheduled for reasons unknown. The name check and fingerprints came back clean.

We are totally fed up with the long wait - most others who applied in April and May have already at least had an interview scheduled and many who applied in June and July are already in the queue. We are wondering what the problem is.

I call my senator's office, got quick action on both the I-751 and the N-445, also gave him a couple of bucks for his campaign fund, wife and I got to meet him personally at dinner, LOL, far more effective and a lot cheaper than an immigration attorney. He's on that committee the USCIS has to answer too.

USCIS told me that when this happens, they place the application back on the end of the queue, causing a huge delay.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Who at USCIS told you this?

Wouldn't surprise me when 99 out of a 100 pass the APA without reading it, or provide funds for a war without doing there own research, and you would be shocked to hear the power the speaker of the house has. If your senator or congressman is not helpful, kind of tells you how you should vote for the next election.

Why would I be shocked to hear the power the speaker of the house has, when they are second in succession to the presidency?

An inquiry by your senator or representative is worthless unless a time frame is established for a follow up, and of course, you must have a just reason to make that inquiry. Their hands are tied too by those crazy processing dates unless you can show undue hardship. Certainly noted the tone of the USCIS where they like to isolate the alien, but give them a constant reminder, hey, you are talking about my family, are you trying to tear it apart!!!! So much more effective when the USC does the inquiry and also to be aware of your own rights and you cannot be afraid to talk to your representative if you recall the US constitution, they are there to represent you. They also tend to forget that at times.

I did it twice. Both times, our problem was solved within days. My local U.S. Reps office gave me a standard "constituent request form" that just asked me for details of our case. Then they sent an inquiry to an office in USCIS called the "Congressional Liaison Office." My U.S. Reps office showed me the e-mail they received. It was long with detailed explanations with what was going on with the case; stuff you'll never get over the phone. I've read others say that all this can do is get you information USCIS won't give you over the phone. That may be true but let's be honest, this is politics. If you hear from the office of one of the most powerful men/women in America who helps make decisions as to whether or not your office receives federal funding, what are you going to do?

Who at USCIS told you this?
A guy named Ralph.

He also told me that if I give him $500 cash, he can get me anything I want in 3 days.

I contact the florida senator 2 days ago by the web page. Today he send me a .pdf form regarding more information and i sended it by fax to him. My problem is that i haven't heard from uscis since febreary that i did my fingerprints. I called the FBI and my fingerprints was ok, since there i made 3 appointments with my office in West Pam Beach and they always gave me the same answer "your papers are in Miami". They don't know why, they asked me if i lived in Miami and i said no. My priority day is August 27, 2007, so i think that i have a good reason to contact the senator and hope that he can do something because i feel frustate with my process because it is take too long and i have to read all days people who beggining later than me and they already finished. I understand perfectly how Stef and Kel feel about their process
