Greetings all,

I'm back with another question. My husband and I were married in Egypt in June. We are working on the K-3 visa paperwork. My question is my husband was divorced in Egypt and his divorce papers are all in Arabic. Do I need to get them translated into English?

My attorney advised us to have everything translated so you probably should. Good luck.

Yes you will. All documents in a foreign language have to be translated into English.

Heres another question then, the translated copy does it need the seal of egyptian government on it?

Found this for you http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...ge=translations

However it is worth checking with the embassy if they need to be certified as some have different requirments.

To use the Egyptian divorce certificate in the U.S., it should be translated into English by the Egyptian Ministry of Justice

so the best and the safer way to get the divorce paper translated ask your husband to go to the ministry of justice in Cairo ( Translation Office) the fee is 40.00LE. It takes 4-7 days to receive the translation, which must then be authenticated by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (11.00LE).

so then you can use it in the USA .

Good luck and my best wishes for you .

Actually, Yes, anything sent to the USCIS needs to be translated into english. But it can be anyone who is competent. You just need to add a statement at the end that you are able to translate them. Look at the guides.

If you or your spouse speak both english and arabic. You can translate them yourself. I translated all of our documents. They do not need to be translated by anyone special.

This actually varies by Consulate. For China, (at the Consulate stage) official government documents like divorce decrees, birth certificates, marriage certificates and police reports are only accepted if "Notarial Translations" done by the local government Notarial services called "Gong Zheng Chu". The requirements tend to be more stringent when the the native alphabet isn't "Roman". What may fly for USCIS doesn't always fly with the Consulate, so the best practice is to provide USCIS what the Consulate would require.

Helllo! Yes, My husband I had to get everything translated.. sealed ..stamped.. all the

running around you did in Cairo for marriage..the same applies to any documents you

have translated. Sucks.. I know.. but you will end up back at the American Embassy when

its all done.

When your petition is approved, he will need more passport photo's thru this whole process too.

For Army (release to travel documents) and naturally, for the passport. Mohamed and I just found that out too.

(so have him get more while in Cairo)

Good luck! Lara
