Hi to all VJ'ers

Its been over a year since my last post. Been a very LONG year, but a good year overall.

Just applied for Removal of conditions a couple of weeks ago, and got the NOA1. I tried checking the case status online with the NOA1 application #, but kept getting this message:"Receipt Number cannot be found". After some research on VJ, I realized I will be getting a different # with the Bio letter.

Today I received the Bio letter with a different application #, but this # isn't working either, and I still get the same message "Receipt Number cannot be found".

Am I missing something or doing something wrong??

Was thinking about calling USCIS, but then thought I would get more info from here without the hassle of an automated system, LOL.

Tnx in advance;

As I said on another post earlier today, this question comes up so often, it probably should be in a pinned thread (if anyone around here knows how to PM the admin, might be worth doing). Here is what I've noticed from our collected experiences:

1. The number on the first NOA (the one acknowledging receipt of application) is an internal (to USCIS) number only. It won't work on the online case status system.

2. The number on second NOA (the biometrics appointment letter) is the one that shows up on the online case status system.

3. It takes a while for the status online to be updated. Some have an active status before the biometrics letter shows up. Some don't appear until after the biometrics appointment. Some don't appear until after the approval of the case (yes it has happened).

The case status seems to have no value beyond lessening our anxieties. Its nothing more than an acknowledgment that your case exists (which the NOAs prove anyhow), and since the only thing that's ever posted for the 751 is receipt of application and approval of application, it really doesn't tell you anything about progress.

Hi Kml_36,

Don't use the NOA case # as that is just a temporary one, which they use internally and cannot be accessed by the anyone else other than USCIS employees. And yes, both the NOA and the Biometrics numbers are different.

Actually, on the NOA you got, it should say the following (at least that's what mine said): "Upon reciept of your ASC appointment (biometrics appointment) notice, you can find the status of your case on-line..."

I tried the case update with the Biometrics letter case # (that I just got this week) and it actually worked on-line for updates (lol...though it didn't update much at this point, other than they are processing my case)!

If the biometrics letter doesn't work at first, you can try it again and again, until it works. If the biometrics letter still doesn't work for awhile, and if you have the patience to do so, then yes, you can call the USCIS automated phone system to get your case update that way.

Hope this helps. Good luck in the rest of your journey...

Yes, I agree.....we had different numbers too. And, the one on the Bio is the one that ended up working. But, it took a long time for it to work. Wasn't until they updated the actual status of the entire CSC, that I found the number worked.
