Hey VJ'ers

Was wondering your thoughts regarding last name acceptance from native alphabet to American visa standards. My fiance's last name is spelled the following way in his country of origin

Wallenäs

but on his visa

Wallenaes

The ä = ae I guess in the English language.

He has had a bank account and driver's license all with his name being spelled Wallenas without the dots during his time as an exchange student. Not with an AE. Also his records with the school I believe are also spelled it Wallenas. I have also filled out the forms (K1) as such, but including the Wallenaes version under the section "other names."

On to my question. How should we go about this name situation? I would prefer not having it written as Wallenaes, but as he has done before in the states as Wallenas (saves a lot of confusion). Also it helps on his other forms of ids like his passport and what not that look more similiar to that. Also noting that I will be taking his name.

How should we move forward? So confused.
