I693- Medical Exam

My wife and I visited a designated civil surgeon and he is trying to tell us that if we don't get a medical exam with him it will cause problems down the road. According to the instructions for the I693 it says that if my wife is a K1 Visa holder and got a medical exam within the last year (which she had to get for her K-1 visa) she does not have to get another medical exam. The civil surgeon is arguing that we don't have proof of this, and is asking where is our copy of the exam? I've explained it to him that after the exam they gave my wife a sealed envelope which she gave to immigration upon her entry into the country. After about 15 minutes of explaining this he accepted it but still insists that we will run into trouble later for not paying him to do a medical exam. Now, my question is, what does he fill in on the medical examination part aside from the Vaccination portion which is obvious and he will fill it out? Does he simply cross out the sections that he did not conduct?

Hi there! He will put vaccination only. You need to have a copy of I-693 before he put it in a sealed envelope "to prevent future problems", like if the CS put it in there "refused to have medical done" or something etc...so make sure you have a copy of I-693. Good luck

Did your wife received her copy of her medical/vaccination during the K-1 process?I gave a copy of my vaccination record to the Civil Surgeon and that's what he used in transcribing to I-693 form.

She has her vaccination records which the civil surgeon looked over and then told us what we needed for vaccines. We then had bloodwork done at our family doctor to show she had the required antibodies for all the other diseases. We don't have a copy of the medical she had done in Kiev...it was in a sealed envelope that we gave at the port of entry to Immigration.

No, we didn't inquire with other civil surgeons. None are in the immediate area. I was just curious what other people did as far as the section for the exam goes. According to the I693 instructions it's pretty clear so I'm not worried about there being "trouble" in the future but I was just wondering what everyone else did...i.e., cross out the medical exam section?

HI we're not the one who will fill out the I-693 form, so having said that we should not be the one who will cross out the medical exam section. ON my I-693 copy part 2 medical examination the CS just write in there "IMMUNIZATION ONLY" . That's it for the medical examination part for me

According to the instructions...you can either leave section 2-medical, section 3, and section 4 blank and turn in the entire form; or you can throw away pages 2 and 4, and only turn in pages 1, 3, and 5.

There is your answer in red. He accepted the fact that you didn't need an exam, but still wanted to get paid for one. That's what these crooks do, they try to scare people into paying them for uneeded services, like a lot of other doctors. I think the line "will cause problems down the road" is probably a money-maker on the uninformed, but when he came across a VJ'er, it didn't work. They ask for proof because they know you don't have any as you turned it in at POE. The only thing you should have is the vaccination worksheet which the doctor is supposed to give you at the medical. Bring that to a CS and he should fill out parts 2 (vaccinations), and part 5 (signature).

Btw, did you show him the instructions of the I-693, section III, point 2, on page 4?

That's the funny part actually, I printed out the directions and showed him and his nurse what it said. They then asked me for proof that she had a medical and I told them she could not have gotten the K-1 visa without one and that it was turned in at POE and that USCIS would have it in her file.

I decided instead to use Dr. L E Arnold who I just found on this board.

That's the funny part actually, I printed out the directions and showed him and his nurse what it said. They then asked me for proof that she had a medical and I told them she could not have gotten the K-1 visa without one and that it was turned in at POE and that USCIS would have it in her file.

Nowhere does it say that you must prove to the CS that you had a medical. He just need to transcribe the vaccinations and sign the form. They act like they are putting their as* on the line, but really they are just copying from the other form. It's all about money. Most know that you are correct and that they just have to fill out the vaccinations and sign the form, but others are really that clueless and believe that they are correct.

I never submitted I693 with my AOS. I gave the civil surgeon the vaccination sheet they gave me from my country (DS2035) and the I693A form, but he never bothered to transfer the data but just filled out the portion for the Td/Tdap portion and signed it. Then they put it in a sealed envelope. I was kinda worried I will have RFE because of it, but somehow it just went fine.
