Any former Cub Scouts or current Cub Scout parents out there?

Darn- I went through the Penn and Teller episodes we have right now on Showtime on Demand. Unfortunately- the Cub Scout one wasn't up there. I'll try to get my hubby to look at this thread.

My husband doesn't seem to be much of a Boy Scout fan. He just seems to roll his eyes about the whole thing. But my stepson is interested and the meetings are at his school- so all his classmates and boys he knows are going to be there.

In the video they show that Cub/Boy Scouts (same affiliation/rules) help people in the same sense a summer camp would, in terms of getting out and doing things, being a man in those respects. However, it simply isn't worth the discrimination that one supports by being a member.

So I guess I can't put you down to buy some popcorn?

The problem, MissStacey, is who has taken over the Boy Scouts in recent years. It's mostly run by the Mormon church (i.e. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). This was more than evident in my experience.

There used to be no religious affiliation and sexuality was not a concern until the last few decades when the church, in essence, took it over. This is very much evidenced by a lot of issues in this country starting with the Red Scare.

#######???? Now that's a surprise -- I didn't know that. Wow.

I didn't realize any of that either. I always assumed they were not affiliated with any religion.

I will have to watch the videos at home tonight. Thanks for the links.

For this, I'd need lots of beer. :D
