We received an RFE for a lost medical. We went to the civil surgeon and my husband has to have the varicella vaccination. This is a two dose vaccination with a wait between doses. Can he just take dose one (dose two on the appropriate date) and then that be filled out on the I693 that he had the first dosage before sending in our new I693? We have only until 10/6 to respond. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I had to get a varicella vaccination during my medical exam as well. Mine was a single shot though. I did it on my second visit to the doctor (when I got my TB test results and picked up my paperwork). They never asked that I come back for a booster shot - although I now realize that it is recommended for adults to receive a booster after 4-8 weeks. At the time, I didn't even realize I needed it.

So I mailed my papers after receiving the first shot.

AOS timeline

07/17/2008 - POE Washington D.C. as an F1 visa student (had an F1 since 2006)

08/22/2008 - married a very charming and gorgeous USC

09/02/2008 - mailed my AOS submission with EAD and AP (i-130, i-485, i-131, i-765 together to Chicago Lockbox)

09/04/2008 - AOS submission received and signed for by V. Bustamante

09/09/2008 - checks with fees for i-130 and i-485 cashed

09/12/2008 - NOA1 arrives in the mail (i-130, i-485, i-131, i-765 one each), notice dates 09/09/2008

09/13/2008 - Biometrics appointment letter arrives in the mail. Appointment scheduled for 10/01/2008

09/15/2008 - Walk in biometrics successful! Biometrics done.

09/25/2008 - i-130, i-131 and i-765 viewable online! i-485 not viewable - showing a Validation Error.

11/13/2008 - i-131 (the AP) touched online! i-485 still not viewable

11/13/2008 - i-765 EAD card production ordered - online notification! Yay!

11/15/2008 - i-131 AP comes in the mail! It was approved on 11/12, not updated online yet.

11/21/2008 - received an e-mail from CRIS that my EAD has been mailed.

11/22/2008 - receive EAD in the mail

12/12/2008 - received the letter scheduling the interview with USCIS

02/05/2009 - date of the interview, green card approved!!!

You DON'T have to complete the series, you just need to receive the first shot for it to count towards AOS. The Civil Surgeon should mark your form as received once you received the first shot. It's your responsibility to complete the series. Many people just get the first one and never go back.

Q: Does USCIS require that all shots in each vaccine series be completed before applying for adjustment of status?

No. The applicant must have received all the required age-appropriate vaccines that could be given at the time of the medical exam. If the applicant has started the vaccination series, but is not able to complete all the required shots because, at the time of the medical exam, the minimum time interval between shots has not passed, the applicant may still apply for adjustment of status. A waiver is available in cases where, due to required time intervals, it was impossible for the applicant to receive all shots in the series before submitting the application for adjustment of status.

For example, the Hepatitis A vaccine requires that applicant receive two doses of vaccine, six months apart. If the applicant receives the first dose in January, he or she does not have to wait until July, when the second dose would be given, to submit the adjustment of status application. However, the applicant must have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, if appropriate, before applying for adjustment of status.

Thank you very much! We will just have him at least get the first vaccination prior to sending in the paperwork. The civil surgeon he went to did not offer any vaccinations. Just handed him a paper and said you need to find a place. I appreciate your help!

Hi Tasha sorry to hear about the RFE.....I wish I could answer your question but I can't. I just wanted to say I am thinking of you and praying for you guys everyday. Give that sweet baby a hug and kiss for me. Oh you can try the COunty health department for his shots. they are cheaper there.
