Hi Cutenurse300,

I asked the same question a few weeks ago on another message thread. And here is the message thread and the answers that I got from it:

Basically, from the answers that I got, the extension letter extends your green card for another year based on the expiry date on your green card. Yes, 3 months does make a difference, indeed. And they should make it more clearer on the NOA as to which date it refers to. Confusing, isn't it?

Hope this helps (and thanks too for other VJers for their help). Good luck on your immigration journey and have fun on your travels. And from the looks of it, based on current processing times, it should be your turn soon, and you'll get the new 10yr green card shortly after.

I wondered myself esp since i got multiple letters w/ different dates

however i was told and noticed when the airline, and my job wrote the expiration date, it's one year from you card date

which makes sense, since it's an extension of your card
