Hi, my wife started collecting documents (such as birth certificate, marriage certificate) few months ago. They are notarized in China. Anyone knows for how long these documents are valid? Does NVC have policy regarding the length and validity of such documents?

Thanks a lot.

The NVC doesn't have a policy for that so I'm pretty sure you're ok. We sent them documents that had been notarized for over 6 months and didn't have any problems.

Birth certificates and marriage certificates never expire. Her police certificate is good for only one year and it's best to obtain it as near the interview as practical. Usually, they take a month to obtain.

Since you filed for a CR1/IR1 visa, you will need original documents or certified copies of the documents from the country of origin, not the US. See here NVC Document Requirements

My questions is if one is doing IR-1/CR-1, he/she has to send original documents or certified copies (issued by stated authority) of originals....then why do we need Notarized documents? Is this something everyone is doing? If yes, I am in big trouble.
