For those who receive an 'approved' message from the Interviewer at the end of their interview - what was the 'approval date' on your GC when you received it? Was it the date of the interview, or some date shortly thereafter (ie when the card was produced).

Our interview is scheduled less than a week before our 2nd anniversary and we are hoping (and hoping!) that the official approval date won't be until after the date so we don't have to deal with an I-751 down the road.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi Greencardinaz,

In my situation two years ago, I was approved at the interview, and likewise, I was told that I was "approved" right then and there and they typed something afterwards into their computer to order the green card right away. When I got the condotional green card in the mail a week later, the date on it was the date of the interview, the same date that I got approved on. I've known others too, who were approved at the interview, and likewise, on their green card was the date of the approval at the interview.

I know what you mean about not wanting to go through with the I-751 later on down the road. Lol...I'm in the process of that myself now, and believe me, I don't want to deal it (it costs more in time, money, stress, and waiting), but I have no other choice, as when I got my conditional green card I was married for less than 2 years then and now need to "remove the conditions" for a 10yr unconditional green card.

Therefore, for your situation, if you're concerned about being approved before you reach your 2 year anniversary, I suggest that you re-schedule your interview for after your 2nd anniversary. However, there is no guarantee as to when the new rescheduled interview date may be and you could be waiting for a long while for a new interview date for your green card. Plus it might not look too favourable for you for immigration officials if you re-schedule your interview for such a minor reason as for getting a 2yr green card vs getting a 10yr green card during the interview.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your immigration journey.

Ant (Still waiting for the I-751...)

And yes, the approval date is the interview date, if the officer tells you clearly you are approved.

One thought I had is that, in cases like ours - when we are almost at the 2nd anniversary - they schedule these interviews on purpose just prior to the 2nd anniversary, so you are approved conditionally and they can milk more money for removal of conditions later on.

However, had I known I would be approved conditionally (I too, like you, was hoping to get the 10 yr card), I still would not have gone through the trouble of rescheduling the interview. But that's another discussion. Good luck!

Thank you both for your feedback - sweetpiano, congrats on your successful interview and Ant, good luck in completing your 751 journey!

We have no intentions of rescheduling or attempting to reschedule; while its disappointing that the dates are SO close (and we wished they'd worked in our favor of being AFTER the anniversary), our 2nd child is due later in the year, and so we have bigger things to think about then worrying about having to do a 751 down the road. ;)

We'll just be happy to have this part of the journey done soon!

Hi Greencardinaz,

You're welcome for the reply. Lol...I hope too that my I-751 journey goes well too, despite the extra expenses for that and long ahead to get that accomplished in getting the 10yr card afterwards....

Congratulations too, on your 2nd child this year. Good luck on your interview and good luck on getting your green card (whichever one that may be, the 2yr vs the 10yr one) afterwards as well.

Ant
