The receptionist at my doctor surgery didn't know about it either so she called me back after speaking with others. She said the vaccine is so new that it's not very known about but some places are doing it at an expensive price.

Perhaps call a helpline (NHS?) and ask who are giving it.

Posted

i made my doctor find out if he could buy it in for me, and he can't he phoned me bk and said i would have to go to a travel clinic and pay £115 per shot, thats only £5 cheaper than knightsbrige at £120, currently they are perscribing it to girls under 18, and its the anti cervial cancer vaccine. tell him that and he might be remember what you are talking about. for those over 18 its not cost effective in nhs eyes, and its so new most surgeries will prob have to buy it in. have you got a travel clinic near you that deals with visa jabs? could you try there, though it will prob be costly.

I have heard alot of people say it is cheaper in the USA, Knightsbridge also told me it would be cheaper in the USA, remember you dont need the HPV vaccine to get your visa, you only need it to apply for AOS.

I would advise you to have a quick scope around some Clinics in the USA, I was quoted $120 .

Wow they do charge you an arm and a leg for HPV in the UK! For K1 visa you don't have to have all the shots up to date to get the visa, thus IMHO it is worth getting HPV in the US. It is more widely used and goes for around $125 (about half the price compared to the UK) per shot. You will need to get your first shot done to file AOS. Hope it helped.

They charge so much as it is not supposed to be given to 20 somethings. To the NHS it is seen as waste of their money and resources so they charge accordingly.

Hellooooo!!

I'm in a similar situation. I contacted my GP about this and they said that they didn't know when it was going to become available and if they would offer it privately to women over the age it will be prescribed on the NHS. My GP said to contact a practice down the road but I just moved out of the area so that may not be an option any more.

My mum found details of a private medical centre in Stockton that will administer the HPV vaccine....but it costs £500 for the full course!!!! FIVE HUNDRED QUID!!!! That's more than the bloody K1 itself, lol.

Has anyone else heard of finding it cheaper anywhere? How much do they charge at the medical?

It's £120 for the injection at the medical. Though I don't think that's the full course. I was under the impression you don't have to have the full course for the AOS.

Or you could just wait until you arrive in the US and have it done there before you file for AOS.

you don't have to have it done for the K-1 interview, and you only have to have done the first one by the time you file AOS. Now if you had the first one at the medical and didn't file AOS for 2 months after that, you'd be due for the next one by the time you file AOS. However if you have the first one right before you file for AOS, the US govt does not check up on whether you have any more shots. It's up to you to finish the course (or not).

Agreed - I came across on K-1 and didn't get the HPV in the UK because it was so expensive and worked out cheaper to get it here (if I even need it which remains to be seen - am awaiting my RFEs but nothing yet  ) You just need to get it before you adjust status in the US :)

At Knightsbridge, I was given the option of having the vaccine there or doing it in the US, and I opted for the US, as it would be cheaper overall.

So long as you're able to have it done before filing AOS, it shouldn't be a problem.
