Mine was just this past sunday and we were away for a few days. It was nothing special, just nice to get away from work and the every day things. We didn't give each other gifts though because I don't really like getting gifts so it was just nice to spend time together.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I agree, theres sooo many holidays that "require" gifts. Now I have to stay on top of anniversaries too? Damn.

But if you need to get a gift, I say keep it simple. Something small and sweet or maybe you get something you both can enjoy together? It's only your first year, save the big stuff for the later years.

I'm sure my soon to be sister in law who isn't even married yet is planning her first year anniversary gift. Diamonds?? Pearls?? I can picture it now...

I didn't do anything special, but I wanted just a little something for us to make it special, and I found this

Reading: "To Love and be Loved is the greatest gift of all"

It plays music and you can shake the glitters in it ;)

Since it was our paper anniversary - I made Chris a coupon book. He got me an album to record special memories for each year of our marriage. We kept it simple. Its more in line with who we are. We were just happy to get to see each other for our anniversary this year. That was gift enough.

thetreble - better tell your bro to start saving for his 1st wedding anniversary gift.

mephys - love the globe, it so pretty, I like things that sparkle too. :)

Wow, Carla, that's really beautiful.

G&A, I'm really bad at gifts for anyone over the age of 8 (I enjoy buying books for little kids---anyone else, including my own husband, I have no idea what to get). But surprising him with something special--dinner out, a trip, a movie, a massage or something like that--is always nice.

 - oh heck no, I'm a dirty girl, he doesn't need one of those. :P

This was a coupon book of things I hate to do - like go out 4x4ing, be nice to Dale (the dog), admit he's right when I know I'm right. Like I said, things I really hate to do.

PS: I put an expiry date on those suckers, just in case he forgets he can't bring them up 10 years later and say - look what I found honey.

lol.. some great great ideas..

For hubby's 40th.. i took all the pictures from his Navy days and scrap booked them. I also took the pics from his "bachelor" days (you know all the ones that are stuck in boxes) and put them in photo albums so they don't get damaged and he can actually look at 'em. Just some more thoughts :)

on our first wedding anniversary I was broke and hubby was coming up to Canada for the weekend and we planned on staying at a Bed and Breakfast...

I just wrote down a bunch of things I loved about him and some lovey dovey quotes on little pieces of paper and then I threw them into a nice little box along with some Hershey's kisses... he really liked the gift

Heh, I think I'm going to give my husband a dirty coupon book for a wedding present. No expiration dates, either!

Or is that too much of a present for myself, too?

guys are so hard to shop for... like it is my hubby's Birthday on Friday and I have no idea what to get him.. he has been saying he needs and address book for work.. but that seems like kind of a lame gift...

I always have the hardest time shopping for my 4 brothers but the easiest time shopping for my little sister, I have to reign myself in when I shop for her because I would go overboard otherwise :P
