Putting the Packet Together...

Quick question: it appears some of you attach evidence of your marriage prior to getting the green card. Is that necessary? I thought I only need to send proof ever since I received the green card until now. They already have all that proof from the AOS for the marriage b4 the GC... So is it really necessary? (my letter kinda weighs already pounds!!!)

Another question: the tax returns, what do you print out from them: all pages? The Turbo Tax document is 70 pages long, do I need to send all of it?

Hi AnnaC,

In answer to your "quick question":

I wouldn't worry too much about sending stuff between when you were married and when you got the AOS, as you already gave them that original information covering that timeframe during your AOS interview. Whatever you still have during that marriage-AOS period is good, so you can submit that stuff, but think of it as a bonus/extra information for the I-751. Mainly focus on the evidence that you have from the AOS to the present, as that time period of needed information will cover both the period of your marriage and your conditional green card too.

In my situation, I mainly submitted all of my information starting from the AOS/Green Card approval onwards to the present, except for a few photos and some other minor joint documents before then from the time of our marriage in April 2006 to the approval in November 2006, which I thought of as extra information from what I already have onwards. This is mainly because before I could not be jointly added to any financial information during that "blank period" since I did not have an SSN until January 2007 onwards. I figure that "I can only give them what I have", so if I have a "blank period" of financial information from April 2006-January 2007, then so be it, as "I don't have it". After all, I can't submit what I don't have, right?

Hope this helps. Don't worry too much about the "blank period", especially since they already saw your information during the AOS interview. Good luck on your immigration situation too.

Ant (Still waiting at the VSC...)

P.S. Sorry, I don't know the answer to your "another question", as I did not send in any tax returns for my situation (I sent them a note explaining my tax situation instead). Can any other VJers help AnnaC with the answer to this question? Thanks.

If you need more ideas, as to what to send in for the I-751, you can have a look at this message thread, which lists the items that I sent in for the I-751 a few weeks ago (and yes, it weighed a pound too): http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...=118868&hl=

I agree. I pretty much focused on what happened between GC received and now for LOC.

Good luck.

How are your tax returns 70 pages long? I would only send the main parts and vital attachments. Copy them two sided too. That should help.

Thanks... Well they are long as we filed together with Turbotax and it includes federal tax returns, CA tax returns and NC tax returns as we moved in 2007. There are tons of extra pages for the student loan interest, savings accounts and Roth IRAs... I'll look through it and only print the pages that are those official forms... Turbotax really creates a humongous output!!!!

The "packet" (are we still calling this a packet?) has been.. unofficially delivered! :o Soon we can start checking the cheque to see if it's been cashed. I'm assuming they still stamp a case number or receipt number on the back we can use to track the case status with or do we need the NOA?

Label/Receipt Number: 0307 XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX

Status: Delivered

Your item was delivered at 1:23 PM on September 25, 2008 in SAINT ALBANS, VT 05479

We sent in tax transcripts ordered from the IRS. much less paper!

A sample of evidence that covers the life span of your marriage is preferable, particularly your financial evidence. People have been RFE'ed for not providing enough evidence. Do not assume that your Removing of Conditions part of your file is together with the rest of your file when it lands on someone's desk. My AOS approval was delayed because the adjudicator had to wait until the two parts of my file (the K-1 stuff, and the AOS stuff) were reconciled (put together physically) to be reviewed by him -- the K-1 part of the file had to come from TSC! Never ever assume that they have all the stuff you submitted in the past in front of them. Consider this a separate and independant application from what you submitted in the past.

Yay aidan! Now you get to sit and wait. :)

Just got approved, so i can say for sure...

They need only Federal returns but with all schedules. That is what lawyer said. And it does not have to be certified copies from IRS. Our copies were a mess-we just printed and even forgot to sign. If I am not mistaken, CIS and IRS share info.

So it is all put together and will be sent off tomorrow down the road to Laguna Niguel.... Here's what we have:

Joint financial records

a. A partial copy of our joint tax return 2006

b. A partial copy of our joint tax return 2007

c. Joint utility bills

d. Joint credit card bills and bank account statements (Bank of America checking, USAA checking, Citibank savings account, American Express card, Discover card)

e. Roth IRA papers showing each other as beneficiaries

Joint insurance records

a. Dh's military life insurance showing me as beneficiary

b. Tricare health insurance bills and copy of military ID which shows DH as my sponsor

c. Joint Aetna dental insurance papers

d. Joint USAA auto insurance (recent)

e. Joint Allstate auto insurance (old)

f. Joint Farmers auto insurance (even older)

Joint lease

a. Current joint lease

b. Statement that we lived with Dh's mom prior to that - no lease, we didn't pay rent, they are welcome to question her (address & phone number attached)

Certificates

a. Copy of my passport showing new last name and address in California

b. Our son Jona’s birth certificate

c. Titles of our car and trailer

d. Catholic marriage certificate (Catholic ceremony was after the official wedding, a religious ceremony needs more time to plan!)

e. Official name change record with the German authorities

f. Copy of my power of attorney (I have a power of attorney to act on behalf of my DH)

Personal letters and mail sent to both of us (wedding, baby shower, Christmas, birthdays, OTS graduation)

Pictures of us from the past months

Ok I hope that's enough... There are no K1 papers for me, I was here working when we got married... If they need more info prior to the green card, they can send a RFE. But I think our insurances, our BABY, and the military papers are pretty strong evidence!

Hey aidan - looks like a good list.

Really just wanted to say we mailed out packet the exact same date as you! Let's hope we both have a speedy process.

I'm sure it won't take long till we're over the last hurdle!.. What a long drawn missing this has been so far.. this horse has been dead for quite a while and yet.. we still have to beat it at least for a few more months.
