Hi Ivancho1231,

You have to wait until you get the Biometrics letter and use that case # on that letter to check on the USCIS website for updates. Don't use the NOA case # as that is just a temporary one, which they use internally and cannot be accessed by the anyone else other than USCIS employees. And yes, both numbers are different numbers.

Actually, on the NOA you got, it should say the following (at least that's what mine said): "Upon reciept of your ASC appointment (biometrics appointment) notice, you can find the status of your case on-line..."

I tried it it with the Biometrics letter case # (that I just got today) and it actually worked on-line for updates (lol...though it didn't update much at this point, other than they are processing my case)!

Hope this helps. Good luck in getting your biometrics letter soon and in the rest of your journey...

I had the same question last week. Hubby hasn't received his appointment letter yet, but if I had my glasses on at the time and had been able to pry the letter out of his hands for more than two second, I would have actually seen that at the bottom of the letter too about being able to check status online once appointment letter is received.

It's easy to forget some of the details if we haven't been on VJ much since AOS.:innocent:

I-129F Sent: Nov. 14, 2005 - Approved: March 21, 2006 - Visa Received: Jun. 18, 2006 - US Entry: July 23, 2006 at JFK

MARRIED: AUG. 12, 2006 12:00 PM - AOS Filed: Sept. 27, 2006 NOA: Oct. 02, 2006 - Approved: YES~! - Green Card Received: Nov. 11, 2006

EAD e-Filed: Oct. 07, 2006 - NOA: Oct. 10, 2006 - Approved? - Ignored by USCIS as AOS came 1st - free money for USCIS~!

LIFTING CONDITIONS - I-751 Sent: Aug. 27, 2008 - APPROVED: May 27, 2009 - RECEIVED: July 13, 2009

NATURALIZATION - N-400 Filed: Oct. 18, 2011

This question comes up so often, it probably deserves its own sticky.

1. The number on the first NOA (the one acknowledging receipt of application) is an internal (to USCIS) number only. It won't work on online case status system.

2. The number on second NOA (the biometrics appointment letter) is the one that shows up on the online case status system.

3. It takes a while for the status online to be updated. Some have an active status before the biometrics letter shows up. Some don't appear until after the biometrics appointment. Some don't appear until after the approval of the case (yes it has happened).

The case status seems to have no value beyond lessening our anxieties. Its nothing more than an acknowledgment that your case exists (which the NOAs prove anyhow), and since the only thing that's ever posted for the 751 is receipt of application and approval of application, it really doesn't tell you anything about progress.
