This woman was a very small town mayor until a very short time ago. She was only picked because she was a woman. Not because of her qualifications (she has none) and therefore her position on the ticket is a cynical and sexist one. That is why I think that she does not advance the cause of equality for women.

Its laughable that a woman can be both pro-life and feminist, given that the pro-life position goes totally against women's rights.

I mean - could a black person reasonably call themselves a civil rights advocate if they supported racial segregation?

Respectfully, PD, I believe very strongly in equal rights for women, equal pay, equal chance at education, equal chance for sports, etc. But, I am "pro-life."

Also, I think Poiteen said something about Pro-life being very anti-Christian (sorry if I misquoted here). I disagree with this. I am pro-life, meaning I think abortion is murder and I also think capital punishment is wrong. I am against assisted suicide. I don't blow up abortion clinics or look down upon women for having abortion. I simply do not agree with it. I am not "anti-choice" I am for life. I don't think that makes me a hypocrite. I know many people cannot understand how I can be a Democrat and be pro-life, but there you go. I defy stereotype :)

I'm not sure what you're quoting there. My personal position on the matter is that I don't think I could ever personally have an abortion, but I respect the right to choose. This position is primarily based on my experience of Ireland where abortion is completely banned. This does not stop women seeking abortion, it just means they travel to England to have them. If this were not possible, I have no doubt that many women would die in back street clinics.

Furthermore, as someone who would prefer fewer abortions in the world, it makes sense to support democrats. Abortions go down under the democrats becuase they fund programs to prevent the need for them.

The point I might have been getting at in relation to christianity (though I can't find the quote you're referencing) is that I find it very hypocritical the way that republicans use their 'holier than thou' rhetoric when it comes to abortion, but leave their christian values behind when it comes to support for those children once their born. Children born in to poverty find no sypathy from republicans, and no help to break the cycle of poverty. I find republicans irresponsibly selective as to which issues they are willing to apply their faith and faith based morals to.
