Vehicle Extended Warranty Scam

anyone else been receiving this phone call, " this is the second notice the factory warranty on your vehicle is about to expire....." since the warranty on my truck expired a while, I hang up. received the call again today, I decided to play along. after the recording ended, I was put on hold. hmmm, you even get put on hold to get scammed. when an operator came on, I was given a 10 second pitch, then asked " what is the make, model and year of your vehicle" I replied, " If you know the warranty is about to expire, wouldn't you know that...." immediate disconnect.

hopefully my number has been kicked out of their system.

I've gotten several mailers but no phone calls.

I hate extended warranties and I really hate it when I go to a place like Best Buy where they try to make it quick sell as if the average customer will just drop $40 for a warranty on a $200 item without reading the fine print.

too funny.. I just got this same call...

I'd call your cell phone service provider and alert them. I believe that telemarketers are not allowed to call cell phones because of the minutes charged to your account per call.

Yeah I keep getting that #### (had that call last week actually). Its very annoying.

Extended warranty is a rip - why would I spend $2500 for a warranty on a car that's only worth $7K

Exactly!

My car has 100,000 miles on it now. If it dies, it dies.....

Extended warranties provided by third party interests just don't make sense from the consumer's perspective. Basically, you're paying a third party to provide a warranty for something you've purchased, and that third party's only invested interest in doing so is because it's profitable for them. The company who makes the product has a vested interest in keeping you a satisfied and hopefully loyal customer. A third party takes a cynical approach that says you can never really confidence in a product as a consumer.

The 3 year warranty on my Mustang will expire this year. The credit union that has the note offered me a bumper to bumper warranty that is better than the factory one for an additional 6 years with unlimited milage. It added about $10/month to my payment. It has the added bonus of being good at any shop, anywhere in the USA. I think I got a good deal.
