This has probably been asked before, but we got our certified copy of the marriage certificate today.

Can we send a copy of this with the AOS application or does it have to be an original?

I am thinking that a copy of the certified copy is okay but want to make sure.

Thanks spooky turtle.........really appreciate it. We just copy the certified copy them and keep the original.

Also, have another question.

My husband brought the original birth certificate and a copy of the translation.

Can we use the copy of the translation or does it need to be original translation?

If you love me, then I have everything I need

Send in the copies of anything like that, including a copy of the translation. Just know that if granted an interview, you have to bring the originals or certified copies. You might not even be interviewed!

Thanks so much!!

That's what we will do then!

It wasn't exactly clear in the guide to me. We got a official certified copy of the marriage certificate from the courthouse

but we were hoping we could copy that instead of sending it.

The translation too.......we have the original translation but was hoping we could send a copy of that too.

Sounds like copies are the way to go....

I do not understand why people have such a hard time with this. From the instructions:

Copies. Unless specifically required that an original document be filed with an application or petition, an ordinary legible photocopy may be submitted. Original documents submitted when not required will remain a part of the record, even if the submission was not required.

YMMV

I can tell you exactly why, but I can understand if you think some of us are a little too dumb.

It states under the guides on this site:

Step-by-Step Guide on How to File for Adjustment of Status for K1 and K3 Visa Holders:

7. A copy of the intending immigrant's birth certificate along with English translation. (If in any language other than English)

8. A certified copy of your marriage certificate. (If filing for your spouse)

When you go to the courthouse, they MAKE a certified COPY of your marriage certificate.

So you are saying that number 8 means that you can now make a COPY of the certified COPY that the courthouse gave you. Number 8 should really say 8. A copy of the certified copy of your marriage certificate.

Likewise number 7 should say 7.A copy of the intending immigrants's birth certificate along with a COPY of

the English translation.

I am not the only one that has been confused on this so just think........maybe there is a logical reason

why people on here get confused, or just a bunch of us don't have your smart genes.......

My point is and always has been, read literally what they have requested, and then simply give them what they want.... No smart genes requried...

YMMV

Send them the "certified abstract of marriage" itself and not its copy. You can get one in couple of dollars from your county's courthouse. The original marriage certificate that they gave you when you got married is for your personal record and need not be submitted with the application.
