THE CHOSEN

As expected, my nightmare of being deported to Mexico was not over and I

continued to try to understand – after three weeks – the creepy black cat that Don

Anselmo had asked me to bring with me into my home. It was almost 11a.m. in the

morning when I heard the knock on the downstairs front door. I donned my robe and

walked down the stairs to see who was there.

Standing there was a tall handsome well dressed man with long hair parted in the

middle that curled on each side of his face and rested on his shoulders. Seeing the

smile on the face with the drooping moustache, I opened the door wider and said:

“Yes sir, what can I do for you this wonderful morning?”

‘Senior, you must pardon me for waking you up”, he said eyeing my robe.

“But I bring important news from Mejico, from Don Anselmo” the man said.

“Don Anselmo, and what important news is that? His pesky cat is here and he can

have him back if that is the news you bring” I said sarcastically and with a smile.

“No Senior, I am here to take El Negro back to Don Anselmo but you have to come

back to Mejico and to Don Anselmo” he said.

“Why hello No, why would I want to do that. Why would I go through more horrors?”

“You must Senior. Don Anselmo is to finish healing and purifying your soul, so

that you continue your journey and the transmigration of your soul. Senior, in order for

you to re-enter this earth after death you must have your soul purified and cleansed,

and Don Anselmo has chosen you. You must be with him in three days”

This man was telling something about the soul that I already knew, and what I needed

to know is exactly how it was that Don Anselmo knew of my reincarnation beliefs.

“Senior, you told Don Anselmo yourself, when he performed the Peyote offerings to

the mountains and you smoked the offerings, you told him of you reincarnation intent

and what body you will chose to enter back to earth after you death.

If ever I had concluded that my deportation to Mexico had been a nightmare, the man

standing before me was living example of fright and alarm bells that rang in my body

as my mind went into a speeding backward spiral recollecting my deep rooted beliefs

in reincarnation. But how did Don Anselmo know about my beliefs, and just exactly how

he ties up with me, I thought out loud…I invited the man into my home to ask him some

questions. He readily accepted and said:

“Senior, my name is Clemente Vargas Perez de la Paz, please call me Chente”.

I brought Chente some coffee and took a chair and placed it next to him..I wanted to hear

how Don Anselmo got wind of my religious beliefs on reincarnation. A religious belief taught

to me by my church since childhood.

“Senior, you must know that Don Anselmo is a High Priest in Mejico. He is only one of the

High Priests in Mejico to perform the rites to cleanse and purify the soul. As you know Senior

it is absolutely necessary that the soul shall be healed and purified in order to enter back into

this earth after death, and our religion has taught us that”.

“Senior, you told Don Anselmo that you wanted to return during your reincarnation back

into this earth in the body of a cat. Senior, that is the reason that Don Anselmo asked

you to bring El Negro with you to this country. El Negro was a human just like you in

his past life on this earth. He too chose to enter back into this earth after he died as a

cat. You told Don Anselmo that you wanted to re-enter this earth in the body of a cat so

beautiful that no woman could ever resist you, so that you would be held and loved,

Senior”.

Everything that transpired, my deportation to Mexico while U.S. citizen, Don Anselmo,

the damn cat, everything seemed preordained beforehand as a conspiracy. There is no

doubt whatsoever that I intend to enter back into this earth after my death, just like Jesus

after his death..I do not pretend to be like Jesus in any respect, but I know for a fact that

he would want me to come back after my death – otherwise Jesus would never have taught

me, “that unless man is re-born, he cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven”. My

faith is the tool in my life that generates my belief in reincarnation. My readers know that.

So I agreed to return to Mexico to see Don Anselmo.

According to the instructions laid out to me by Chente, I will now enter Mexico through

Brownsville, Texas and travel to Saltillo, Coahuilla and then south to Monterry, Nuevo

Leon. At the top of a mountain named cerro de la silla (“saddled mountain”) in Monterrey,

named for the image of a horses saddle sculptured by nature at the very tip of the mountain,

Don Anselmo will wait for me in three days. Everything is now clear to me. I spilled my guts

out to Don Anselmo the dark night that I heard his laughter echoing

and ricocheting against the walls of the mountains that led me to him. His Peyote offering

to me induced a mysterious and lunatic feeling having the effect of smoking truth serum.. I

must have hallucinated and spoken of my reincarnation inclinations.

I know not what awaits me under that blanket of darkness and sweltering nights out on

that desert which I must walk on my journey. I know that I will walk with head held up

high for I do not fear death. I long for my exit and hope that it will be peaceful. There is

but one wish that I have. That I meet once again loved ones who died and their souls

transmigrated and reincarnated into this earth whether in their original body form or that

of another. I cannot wait to embrace Don Anselmo for chosing me.

it already has.....there are many hidden stories inside of Nighthawks works. you have to look for the story inside the story you read....its almost like Yoda is posting.

Hello my friend. If you read my new post "Breaking News" that I posted this morning you must be aware by

now why I had not responded to your comment. I refuse to sit idle pondering something beyond my control.

I decided to attend to the people that inspire me.

SMOKE, I truely believe that ("it is not") that no one else understands the meaning of my story...I honestly

believe that some readers might take it to mean that I am promoting my religion...That is a mistake, because no

where in my store do I suggest one religion over another...My story is controversial SMOKE in that it talks of

religion...Something that I regret..However I clearly note in the story that readers here at V/J know of my

beliefs in reincarnation, and I have written about that previously, and never promoted the idea on anyone..

I do regret and feel bad for those that I might have made feel uncomfortable with my thinking. It is these very

people who I feel bad about how they might have viewed my story that inspire me to write. I will not longer write

anything similar that discusses religion...I should have know better..The fact that only a few readers commented

on the story and that no one flung any furniture at their monitors is disgust tell me a lot...They preferred to remain

silent, and for that I love them and respect them more.

SMOKE, I am responding to several comments and I want to make sure that they read what I am writing here to

you. I will ask them to come to this space in your comment to read this message...to all. I will only thank them for

their comment and ask them to scroll here...I hope that is alright with you.

I will catch you later...You know, I have been meaning to ask you about that swim that you took over the ocean some

time back...Did you make that catch you were going after...I hope that you did...
