Why not make it so that you are registered as soon as you register residency in your county or city?

Um, because in America, you're not required to register residency in any county or city?

Funny, I have to change my DL within 30 days of establishing residency and owe notification of change of address if moving within the state within the same time period. At least in all those states where I've lived thus far. Now, sure, that doesn't cover folks w/o licenses but that is something that can be worked on much easier than this whole red tape nonsense with voter registration.

that's an issue involving keeping the address on your driver's license current. You have no general obligation to "register" your residency anywhere. If you don't choose to have a driver's license, you don't need to keep your address current with the DMV.

Contrast this with nations where you DO have a registration requirement (such as Russia) - and it has nothing to do with a driver's license - but everything to do with a formal legal requirement to register your place of residence and several important factors that are involved with this.

Oh yeah - registering to vote is really hard and takes a lot of work. So much red tape to prove your identity and indicate where you live. God, that's just too much work.

In Alaska, you don't even have to PROVE that you're a citizen and you don't have to PROVE where you live. You can put down any ole address you want to. Only thing you have to do is show an ID and fill out a paper. Big deal. If that's too much work, then draggin' ### to the polls on election day, let alone keep up with the issues and make an INFORMED vote is definitely too much work.

Hey, by law in most states the polls are open a finite number of hours. If you don't get there when they're open then you don't cast a vote.

Registering, and voting on the same day definitely invites voter fraud...........How are homeless citizens to identify themselves, and how will they be prevented from voting in multiple precincts, given they have no verifiable address?

I think that registering to vote should be like selective service. If you want to vote, then you need to register within X amount of time of turning 18, and if you don't do it before you turn 26, then you should never be allowed to register.

In terms of changing your address - again, it should be like selective service. I don't know what the time allotment is, but let's say, update your registration within 1 month of moving.
