I received the bad news that Stephen's daughter gave birth. She was 7 months along...........the baby died.

It was a precious baby girl.

His daughter was very ill with toxemia, but she survived.

I am so distraught right now.

Being pregnant and giving birth in Sierra Leone is a great risk. The maternal death rate is one in eight. My heart is so heavy.

So sorry Omoba. May her soul rest in peace (F)

I hope that Stephen's daughter makes a full recovery.

Thank you !

I am asking myself what can I do as a western woman to help that situation with the maternal and infant mortality rate there.

I really don't know.

I am trying to post a link but it may not work. It has an article, photo gallery and video clip. A VJ member had send it to me several months ago but I thought it was too gruesome to post.

But I also want to bring an awareness to the western world of how terrible the conditions are rather than look the other way

or stick my head in the sand hoping that it will go away.

The article is a bit lengthy , the video clip is shorter.

Warning. It is shocking.

I feel the same way Omoba, My heart really goes out to children and pregnant women in Sierra Leone, I want to help out in some way to make a difference. After the last medical missions trip i went to, I really saw the need in that country. The need for medical education, training, equipments etc. is very vital. You know that's one of the reasons i'm in school to be a nurse, at least i'll be able to volunteer my time and skills to go with the medical missions team. You know my fiance's sister just gave birth last month and we were very worried for her and the baby. She's doing fine now but the delivery process was very difficult for her.

That is very kind of you to volunteer your time there as a nurse. Wish I could. The need is so great.

God laid on my heart to help establish a church work there. A place for people with heartaches and needs and spiritual hunger to find a refuge.

This work will begin in December or January.

I just can't sit here and do nothing.

Wow, that will be great. There is nothing as important filling that spiritual emptiness in our hearts. I pray everything goes well so the church can be established soon.

:o Oh my .... I just read the link, and viewed the photos. This is so sad. It's not how human beings should be treated, regardless of their economic situation. Other than pray, please let me know how I can help. It may not be much, but in life I've learned that adding lots of little bits together, equals a whole lot.

As for your Fiance, his daughter and the entire family - they will be in my prayers.

Boaz
