Hi there.

My mom changed my name in 1982, i was 7 years old and has no record of it, i thought she did but i checked and its not what i thought. Its a court letter stating about my mom and dads divorce and a little info about my name being changed on this date but there is no seal from the court.

Any ideas, my interview is in 3 weeks.

Thanks Melanie

Melanie,

Why is this a concern? Different names on different documents, maybe? Or something else?

Have all of the names that you had been provided where requested on the petition and subsequent applications and forms?

HI

My mom changed my name but did not change it by deed pool or any legal means just changed it.

It says on the document that she can do this, (the divorce one), given by the court, that was granted in 1982.

But there is no other papers (court) to back this up, only this one.

The resaon was i forgot to put on my original petition that i had a different name at the age of 6, and on the packet 3, i said there was, now i would of thought they would of checked my birth certificate for my real name?

My lawyer said this is nothing to worry about.

IM a bit confused.

Melanie,

It's still not clear what you're worried about, but I tend to agree with your attorney since they probably spoke to you in person and were able to sort out what you're trying to say.

Your worst problem might be that they have to run another name through the security checks if they didn't have all of your names available at the time the checks were first run. (Unless the un-checked name turns something up when they check it.)

I'm sure I read something about this as my husband has the same problem. It states on the Embassy website that you can provide school records to show that you have been using that name even if it has not 'legally' been changed. Hope that makes sense. Will try to find link and post for you...

Hope this helps :D

Do the names on your birth certificate, passport and police clearance differ? If not I wouldnt worry about it. It may be a case of you mum calling you by a different but not changing your name by deep poll so legally you would still be able to use the name you were give at birth. :)

mm my birth cert is Luc** and my passport and police cert are Lest**.

My mom just changed my name but i do have a court paper, with a stamp on it from 1882, saying that she can change my name to my current one.

The name was changed when i was 6. I did not put in in original but they should of seen the name was different on my birth certificate i sent in with the original package, to that of my passport and what was on the petition.

My lawyer thinks tthere should not be a problem, fingers crossed, lol :)

Adele

SO yes i think ill be fine, i could be Lest** OR Luc** as a last name

Do the names on your birth certificate, passport and police clearance differ?
I was thinking the same thing, if none of these differ than I do not think you have a problem.

good Luck with the interview

Janice

They differ in that my birth cert is one name and my police cert and passport are in the other. How did i get a passport is what i wonder, if it was not changed legally and my passport is not in my birth name

Take the letter you have from your mum's divorce to show that she changed the name then and hope they dont ask for more info. :)
