need advice about going to my Senator

Hi, My petition has been lost somewhere between the Embassy and NVC. I am going to contact my Senator to help me find it. Should I try to use both my state Senators or is that overkill? Should I go whole hog and try to contact my Representatives too hedging my bets that I will find one person that is interested in my case? What about using local politicians? Are only national level politicians able to help ith these issues?

Thanks!

Well..... Tell us a little about your case so we can give you some reasonable advice (ie. how long has it been?). Your timeline also needs to be filled in.

This is a federal law...you will need to contact your state representative in congress, or your senator. The representatives are the ones who handle the purse-strings....

How did you find out your petition got lost. And how long is it since it left the NVC? Before you contact anyone you should make sure that it is really lost. Otherwise you will make a fool out of yourself.

And why is everyone "threatening" USCIS with Congressmen and Senators? The Senator won't help you to find it. He might get the information when it left the NVC and when it arrived at the Embassy. And what is the gain? It won't speed up your process.

My petition is being returned from the Embassy back to NVC. After repeatedly contacting NVC and them telling me that they have not received it yet THEY told me to contact my Senator as Senators have a direct way to contact Embassys that they don't have. So I am neither "threatening" USCIS or making a fool of myself, thanks.

Well, seeing your reaction I can tell why NVC told you to contact your Senator. You have a massive attitude problem.

You didn't say something how long it is missing nor did you give any other information which could be helpful. If you really want a serious opinion you should give out a few more information.

You are very welcome

I was not talking about the OP first, but the second posting.

But nothing how long it is missing, how often he called, how long the normal return time is.

How does the OP expects any useful information???

Of course they tell him to contact someone else if he/she is nagging daily. Normally you give things like that some time to get returned. Especially if you wait for something from such a remote location.

Okay, well, back to my original question: are two Senators better than one? And are Representatives useful as well?

Your congressman/woman will be more affective. They will inquire only what you aske them too. Do you know what date the papers were sent back to the NVC? What was the method of shipment? That is what I would be asking. Contact whoever is in your district and both parties Dems or Republican.

Good luck

Okay, well, back to my original question: are two Senators better than one? And are Representatives useful as well?

I would say try....but keep your expectations low. I spent 8 months contacting both senator's offices here in Florida, and for 9 months I never got any farther than where I started.

After my experiences, I tend to believe that unless you have some kind of "clout" that will get their attention more than the usual, your experience could very well end up being the same as mine...i.e.........they will answer politely, and say they will send "inquiries" etc........and sound real promising...

But that's about the limit of what I found their effectiveness to be.

From one office, after they sent an inquiry, I never heard a word from them nor did I ever get any response from USCIS again.

From the other....I spent 8-9 months contacting the office every few weeks, and each time I was told to "wait a few more weeks" . It was very frustrating, and had I known that after 8 months I would have gotten nowhere and just ended up where I started, i wouldn't have bothered.

Now..............this is Florida. Perhaps other congressional offices are different in other states.........but as for our own two senatorial offices ..........it was wasted effort.

I also wrote the representative from my district........he never bothered to respond or reply to any of my emails. (I never called)

To sum it up................they were very polite (the ones who actually responded) and the way they sounded, got my hopes up a lot that something would be done (my original file was lost....and to this day I have no idea where it is).............and in the end.......I went nowhere.

I finally ended up coughing up the dough and hiring a lawyer........

Good luck.......

Try.....

But keep your expectations realistic.

Remember,....many of these same politicians that you'll be contacting, lately, are the ones exacerbating the immigration problem in this country .............not making it better.......

Okay, I will try and hope for the best and expect nothing! If there is one thing I have learned through this visa process, I have learned that and patience. Oh, and that antidepressants really do work. My fiance is a Tibetan refugee and we started our application in April 2005 and still have not come close to getting a visa. At every turn we have met obstacles, most of them seemingly arbitrary but hope sprngs eternal.
