Navy ships? Can't say I remember that. Seriously you think hizzbullah can touch a F16 or F18. They probably couldn't hit a toy plane. The Israeli airforce owns the skies in the ME...well except for the skies over Iraq.

I would NEVER justify it one bit....but the facts speak for themselves. The Arabs have outdated planes probably from WWII. And surface to air missles.....nothing there either. Maybe Ron Arad's plane was shot down...but that was like 20+ years ago.

israel does not have f-18's.

a f-16 in ground attack can be taken down with a sa-7. throw a few of those up in the air and pilots will be too busy ducking and weaving to do anything.

So then I guess it would depend on how many of those they could get their hands on... not being the weapons buff my dad is-- is that something one can easily get from the Russian side? If so, then as long as they could keep a steady supply, they could keep them at bay somewhat (assuming many things of course).

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

sa-7's are a dime a dozen, pretty much the rpg of the sam world.

Oops your right, it's F15's they have an abundance of. But still you have to give it to them, they rarely lose any planes and they down and destroy many just sitting on the ground before they are used against them. Those outdated MIGs don't have a snowballs chance in he!!. The sa-7 is superior against low-flying planes and helicoptors. The fighter jets would be difficult to bring down...otherwise I think we would have seen more downed in Beruit or in Israeli/arab conflicts in the 1980s.

Someone else mentioned Syria being a safe place....sure...but talk of the governement or leadership is a no no...you simply disappear...vanish in thin air.

We can look at Libya, they gave up on weapons and before you know it Condi is having lunch with Mr. G. I am sure many think of how prosperous the ME would be if governments could just get along. It' obvious no one is going anywhere, so enough with the bloodshed and let people live in peace with one another. It's been far too long.

I guess it depends on who you are as to what happens in Syria. I am sorry to hear about Julianna's brother in law, that is horrible. I hope that doesn't happen to any more students.

As for me, I was criticizing the elections while I was in Syria last year and they never bothered me. They didn't bother my husband either, but of course I just made comments while walking down the street or in the apartment. They may never have known I said anything. I think there is a lot more going on in Syria than is easily seen.

It happens periodically to students every few years from Jordan. Syria and Jordan don't have the best relationship. What LuLu said is what I've heard from Jordanians and Syrians themselves... basically you avoid walking into government places at all costs if you're Jordanian, Syrians try to avoid certin places themselves.

I wonder if it is because Bush doesn't have to cater to them now that he is at the end of his political career. Just a thought.

Good observation........

Notice its always at the end of a term that any US president will attempt to adress in a meaningful way any sort of "peace process" between the Zionists and Palestinians?

AIPAC now may be quite busy preparing to wrap themselves around the necks of the next administration....whomever it may be.

USCIS is unnecessary and a complete freaking waste of everybody's time. What did they do other than waste 7 months of our time and take money?-- because I now have to resubmit the exact same damn information(plus some) to NVC. Apparently there is no connection between USCIS and NVC so USCIS cant simply send our documents to NVC. I was happy to get approved by USCIS but now the process starts all over again only with more complications. Maybe someday I can meet these people in person and thank them face to face for f**ing up almost everything so far. Addresses incorrectly copied, email address repeatedly typed in wrong, names misspelled, ECT, ECT, ECT.

Hows about mandatory drug testing for all who are employed at NVC? All in favor?

I honestly think we don't have to worry about the US and the Middle East in the upcoming months. Its Russia that will be raising eyebrows. That's just my opinion of course.

Scary! That Sara Palin says the US should be willing to go to war with Russia over Georgia!?

Do we really wish to begin hooking and jabbing with Russia??????
