I mourn not only the victims but the loss of so many of our fundamental rights. The patriot act and its ancillaries are an abomination and abrogation of our constitution like no other. That of course is not to mention the trillion dollars spent and thousands of lives sacrificed on a useless war in iraq. If osama bin laden's goal was to debase american society, he has accomplished his mission.

I'll agree with you there - its hard to make sense of the world post 9-11 and exactly how far reaching the subsequent changes to our society have been.

It interests me having grown up during the IRA bombing campaigns in the 80's that nothing has really been learned from that. We didn't have the police going around shooting people in the head on the subway in the middle of the day...

Lot of hysteria.

Did you watch the buildings fall out your window? Did you smell smoke for months? Did you see emotionally battered firefighters & detectives? Did you live in a city of fear? Did you watch your neighborhood on lockdown?

I didn't think so.

Trivializing others because they saw it on TV and not in person (I've seen death too, but I don't tell anyone else theirs is of any less value as it's stupid) really only makes your posts just as more feigning sensitivity as an attempt to attack people who dissent to your views. Learn to live and let live and get the #### over it. Unlike Steven I won't apologize to you because not everyone needs to celebrate 9/11 like you.

You insulted me & NYers by trivializing what we went thru. Yawn????

How callous.

You got all that from a "yawn" to your response to Steven?

Yeah... that's exactly what he was doing wasn't he...

You seriously need to get a grip on your temper.

In Dev's defense, she is not celebrating it. Obviously it was very hard for her. If it was hard to watch from our TVs far away, it would have been much harder to see in person. And Dev isn't a right wing republican or even a republican at all that I am aware of, so it's not political for her as many of you are trying to make it. The people I see whining more are those who are complaining about our rights taken away(yeah the US is so hard to live in now, ), not someone who lived there when it happened. I am sure she isn't happy with things Bush did either since then, but that doesn't mean she can't mourn or be upset. Steven and her don't really get along but he apologized and didn't tell her to get over it.

You don't hold a monopoly on the tragedy Dev...

some people live through trauma and feel they are the only ones who know and have ownership on a "feeling"

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Oh come on - its obvious what she's doing. She's using her experiences of a terrible tragedy as an excuse to project her anger and personal dislikes onto other people.

Noone should demean 9/11 by any means - but its not something someone should cynically use and abuse for their own purposes.

Clearly "live and let live" doesn't exist in her vocabulary.

I'd certainly have hated to live through the IRA campaigns if I were there. These sort of things unfortunately only cause greater rifts unless people can put these conflicts aside for the betterment of getting along. I have plenty of north and south friends there who seem to harbor a lot less resentment than before, which is good thing, to me.

Whatever. Feel insulted then. But, speak for you and yourself. You don't speak for others.

However, your creating drama over an opinion is certainly noteworthy-like of a little kid on a tantrum, being excessively offended at something just as a way of getting others to be more politically correct. Not going to happen.

gee, thanks. Are you a doctor or do you just play one on VJ? You don't even know me. So save your armchair diagnosis.

Damn straight I believe those who weren't there will never 'get it'. My own family & friends agree with that. But I do not think I own that feeling.

The issues between Steven and Dev aside, I still don't think it's right for people to tell someone to get over something especially if they didn't go through the same thing. You don't know how everyone handles situations, not everyone follows a cookie cutter reaction.

It isn't about that though - she's clearly using her experience as a pretext to project onto people she dislikes and wring every last drop of anger and guilt out of them for things that they said which weren't particularly offensive to begin with.

You can't even say "I didn't mean any offence" cause she doesn't believe you... I mean... ####### is that about!?

It's about something not to take very seriously. :P

Well this is true - but someone who comes onto a message board and uses their experience of tragedy simply to score points against people for petty personal gain is being damned disgusting themselves.

I think people are using her reactions as a means to score points themselves.

I know several people who lived through that day in lower manhattan, including a college boyfriend who escaped the south tower. Their feelings are pretty similar to hers. So I think it may be best to let it rest.

I'm all confused. What does the OP's long post have to do with insensitive posts in 'empathy' threads?

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Whatever, people have very different perspectives. It's about different things to different people and respect would just be nice from all involved.
