Hello All, I initially said that I would post this review in the Latin forum, but this seems to be the correct forum to post this information, I hope it helps everyone. Please keep in mind, I WAS NOT AT THE INTERVIEW. Here it goes:

Carmen had an interview yesterday, May 23rd @ 7:45am. She arrived at 7:20am and waited in line. There is this helpful guy who points everyone in the right direction, upon Carmen showing him her interview paper, he wrote some numbers on the document and ushered her in the right line. After giving up her cell phone and going thru security, she waited until her name was called. While she waited there were three other girls waiting for the K1 interview. Only one of them had their USC Fiance with them and they got denied even though they said they were together for two years. Carmen then went to to the window (I believe it was window number 7).

The woman there first looked through her papers and talked to her co-workers and kept Carmen waiting by chatting with her co-workers about shopping, etc. This is quite annoying for Carmen, or anyone, considering your whole future is lying in this person's hands. The woman finally started paying attention to Carmen and she began asking the questions:

How did you meet? In Holland.

Where did you meet? Dancing in The Hague.

What was he doing in Holland? Studying Business.

What were you doing in Holland? Participating in a Cultural Exchange.

Does he still go to school? No, he works now.

How many times has he been to Peru? Just once, but he stayed for 3 months.

How do his parents feel about him being with you and not studying anymore? They must be okay because they came to Peru to meet my family.

How many times have you been to the states? 3 times

One which visas? The J1 and the tourist visa.

Do you plan to work when you get to the states? Yes.

After this the woman asked for my support documents. Carmen told her that both of my parents were co-sponsors, which I guess, impressed the lady in the window. The lady looked through the documents and then asked for the proof of our relationship. Carmen had them separated by continent. First she gave her a big packet of pictures, tickets, hotel receipts from Holland, than from America, than from Peru. The lady asked a few more questions about which dates we were in those countries etc.

Carmen was then asked to wait (it turned out to be 45 minutes). The next guy interviewed her at window number 13, I believe. He was an american guy who spoke really slow spanish. Carmen was polite and spoke slow spanish right back, which, he said he appreciated. The guy pretty much asked the same questions that the other woman asked.

After this he started putting stamps all over Carmen's tourist visa rendering it unusable. He explained that one of the three police reports that she submitted was from the wrong building and that as soon as she got this document she would be able to get her K1 visa. This is VERY annoying, because we followed the directions from the embassy PERFECTLY. They even give you a form that explains the mistake on their initial letter.

The man gave Carmen a yellow slip and she went on her way. SO, the police report takes 10 business days to be generated, so Carmen has to sit for another week. I am just thankful that the visa went through!

NOTE: I do not believe that the USC has to attend the interview in Peru. I was not needed. But, I think it helped that Carmen had a Tourist Visa, a J1(work visa), and that we met in Holland. We have proof of spending time on three different continents together, so that was definitely in our favor.

Let me know if anyone has any questions, I will do my best to answer them!!

 Thanks for sharing your experience, that will help a lot to those who are still on the process

I agree with you, its not necessary sometimes that the USC attends to the interview when you have solid proof of relationship but in my case for example, i felt better having my fiance next to me during the interview, he helped a lot holding my hand and trying to calm me down when i was so nervous  But if for any reason the USC cant attend to the interview, with enough proof of relationship, the beneficiary can do it alone :)

Congratulations again!!

I totally agree with you!! I would have done anything to be there at the interview with her. I know there are other people in my situation who just cannot make it to the interview. I was really worried that she would automatically be denied because I was not there, which was not the case. But, for sure, it is a definite PLUS if the USC can attend the interview.

Thank you raymaga and Oly for the kind words!!

Thanks alexil74

ALL!!

For those that deal with Peru: Does anyone know if there is a number to call to check the status of your visa if you got a yellow paper??

When my fiance sends in her police report and visa, we will just be hanging there waiting for it to arrive. I am assuming it will take no more than three days, but it would be great if someone could give us status on it's arrival so that I can schedule the airline tickets ASAP.

thanks!

Im assuming she will have to take that police record to the embassy, if its like that, then they will give her the pink slip and then she will go to DHL that is inside the embassy, they will tell her inmediately when she can pick the visa up. In my case, my interview was on thursday and i picked my visa up next wednesday, so it was almost a week of course counting the weekend, if its during the week i think that will take 3 or 4 bussiness days. If she can send the police record by mail, then after that she can call DHL and track her passport. I hope that informations helps you :D

You were probably missing the INPE police certificate which is very common. And I do not know why the Embassy in Lima does not specify INPE police certificate in the Packets that they send out. Anyway--my wife sent in the missing certificate via DHL in San Isidro and and like the next Business day she picked her Visa up at DHL's office.

Unfortunately comments about INPE police certificate that I posted back in August of 2005 were lost when the Forum was changed over two this new one.

Congrats on getting the Visa, it will be in her hand soon.
