Quick question.. when did you enter the US? (your timeline isn't updated)

Yeah if you have been here 76 days or more, you are going to need to wait until you have an EAD card or I-551 stamp or card to be assigned an SSN.

The name allowed to be used for the name change due to marriage is going to depend on state law where you apply for the SSN. Generally, you can use your maiden name and married name in some configuration as your last name or your maiden name as your middle name.

Look at EM-06064

Ryan and I will go to SSA local office today to apply for SSN. It's been 11 days since I arrived here. We'll see then if my name is already in their system (I really hope). :)

That's good of you.. it says that after 14 days from your arrival in the US you can apply already SSN to give them time to have your information in their computer. In my case i will apply 14 days before my visa will expire because i have a problem with my I-94. Anyway happy for both of you and congratulations for your wedding..

Ryan and I decided not to apply for my SSN today but instead do the process after we're married so that we no longer have to go back twice to the SSA local office to change my personal infos with my married name. A Pinay friend of mine who is here in AZ also suggested beforehand to get it after we're married. Any opinion is very much appreciated :D

Nice move te, i was doing the same so i only have to briong my passport, visa, I-194 and the marriage certificate..

yoiu think i need a birthcertificate too?

i have a very simple question here.... il be arriving in cali on sept and my wedding is on november. as i thought that wud make things simpler, can i just apply for that SSN after i get married so im already carrying my married name then?

in this case what would happen if someone applies for the SSN after the 76th day?

im a bit confused why is there a rush in getting an ssn? is it because of that i-94?

Everything will be given back, you will be issued an SSA-L676 notice and shown the door.

The BC is the preferred proof of age, but offices will accept the passport too.

D. PROCEDURE - SSN CARD REQUEST BY ALIEN NOT AUTHORIZED TO WORK

Give the alien the appropriate notice (Form SSA-L670) indicating that the applicant did not provide evidence of work authorization. If the applicant refuses to take back the application and insists SSA process it, explain that SSA will not assign an SSN or issue a card. Provide written notice using Form SSA-L676 to explain that an SSN cannot be assigned or a card issued because he/she did not present appropriate authorization permitting him/her to work in the U.S.

Oh that's great girl! Congrats for having your SSN, finally :) We will just wait until we're married so I no longer have to change my name when I apply. Hope everything is doing great with you and your family.

My reason is so that I can get Riza on my insurance as soon as possible, and they require SSN's for that. Of course since she can't be on my insurance until we are married, it's the same thing anyway.

so this means they wont issue an SSN at all if i waited for 2mos before i apply?

..i agree, ur point of view is practical..same here, i feel its better to wait til u carry the married name before u apply for ssn..but its contradicting to what how i understood what "i_quit" is saying...that they wont issue the ssn if there is no authorization permit..

if ul wait til riza carries ur name before she apply for the ssn, will it result to her 1-94 expiration?

what if i applied after the 76th day? WHAT WIL HAPPEN? i dont think that means i wont get an ssn FOR LIFE?????
