My husband is still waiting on his social security number. He went down again today to have them check the SAVE system and also to see if the G-845 (or whatever it's called) had been manually sent. They told him he was still not in the SAVE system. How is that possible when the EAD was generated weeks ago? The G-845 was sent on the 17th and the woman told him it would be "at least 30 days" until they hear back. I have heard he can legally work without the SS#, though the company offering him a job did not seem keen on doing this. Anyone have any information as to what specific forms the company would need to file on him in order for him to legally work? Perhaps if he presents specifics to them they will reconsider. We live about 15 minutes from a different office- should he re- file at the other office? Maybe this office is just filled with idiots. I don't know but it is really frustrating to sit around waiting yet a-bloody-gain for a piece of freaking paper. Should he go down to the immigration office and ask them about the SAVE system?

I assume your husband has an I-485 pending, because it seems that the majority of the time when the AOS is pending the EAD info doesn't get updated to SAVE and the G-845 needs to be sent. The SSA office must allow 30 days before following up on the G-845.

You can find SSN and employment information that may be helpful on the Internal Revenue Service Website at:

Can't submit another SSN application while one is pending.

Possibly, but so far it sounds like the idiots are doing things right.

That's the thing- we have not applied for his AOS yet. We will be doing it in the next few weeks, but we have not applied yet. It's just red tape hell. Well, he's lost the second job offer he's had due to waiting for this #######, so no rush is even on now since there are no other job prospects. Nice when I am pregnant and we are trying to sort out health insurance for the baby. What a great country. (not that I'm bitter or anything).

So sorry to hear your hubbie lost the job because of this cr*p

It really doesn't make any sense. You have to wait for EAD to get SSN and even then they need to check all your documents and whatever.

Stupid system!!!
