Hey guys. My fiance and I are set to lodge our initial I-129F. He's American, so he's the beneficiary. However, he's currently unemployed. He owns his own house, without a mortgage and everything but is in the process of looking for a job. Is this going to negatively affect the case proceeding in any way? I desperately need advice :( Thanks for any help you can give.

Do you mean he is the petitioner? The foreign fiance is the beneficiary. If he is the petitioner then he may need to look for a co-sponser if he doesn't have a job by the time the Affidavit of Support is completed for the interview.

Meggles,

You are incorrect, he is the PETITIONER, not the beneficiary. You as the foreign fiance are the beneficiary.

He is going to need to provide tax returns and meet the financial requirements that are in place for the K-1 visa. You can start out by reading the guides.

My apologies, yes, he is the petitioner. What does a co-sponsor entail? I've never heard of this option. Is it someone else who would be prepared to take responsibility for me financially? Does it have to be a family member of his? I'm sorry for all the questions but I'm just incredibly anxious about this all and just want everything to go smoothly.

Hi Meggles we have the same dilemma, my fiance also resigned from his job a month before our NOA2, but he is going to have a job by october. I have started my own thread about this topic. Pls click on my username and read the topic from my page. I have a few replies from VJ members there also that would help enlighten you.

I think the common advice they have is: Don't take chances. Get a co-sponsor!

It would help a lot if you filled in your timeline so we know what Consulate you are dealing with...etc. A lot will have to do with that.

A co-sponsor can be any us resident willing to provide an I134 and the same proof you will. It is security that you are not going to become a public charge to the U.S.

If he owns his home he may be able to use the equity in that to help prove financial support. All the info you need is in the guides and faq's above.
