Ok, so they're not new parts, but they're new to me :P

Anyway, we are driving Jamie's classic kinda hotrod-ish car down to Springfield, IL for some car show the last weekend in September. Conveniently that's also where his family lives, so I guess we'll have to get that big nerve-wracking event out of the way

After that, we are going to do the Bourbon Trail (or whatever it's called) in Kentucky... tours of a number of distilleries. And finally end up outside of Atlanta for the Petit Lemans race (camping there).

Should be an interesting drive, since his car is so loud that it's hard to talk to each other :D

We are just back a few days ago from a week in a camper in Belgium, and that all went incredibly well! We have done lots of trips together but not any that include the level of stress that can be involved in flying overseas to camp and stuff, so I was pretty surprised that there was nothing less pleasant than a couple of brief moments of snarkiness when we were lost and close to missing our flight home.

Anyway, back to the original topic... any ideas of things to see en-route from IL to Atlanta?

  • 7/7/08 -- I-129f sent
  • 7/9/08 -- I-129f received at CSC
  • 7/24/08 -- NOA1 (finally!)
  • 12/2/08 -- NOA2 (WOOT!!!!)
  • 12/8/08 -- received at NVC
  • 12/22/08 -- packet 3 (with packet 4 attachment instead of checklist :P)
  • 12/29/08 -- packet 3 sent back with bits and pieces that I pulled together to make up a packet 3
  • 1/5/09 -- actual packet 3 received, but found out by via e-mail that they were satisfied with what I had already provided
  • 2/10/09 -- found out via call to DoS that my interview is scheduled!
  • 3/16/09 -- interview!!!! APROVED!!!
  • 4/7/09 -- MOVE!!!!!!!!
Crossed at Detroit/Windsor Tunnel... pretty painless, about 45 minutes, inexperienced officer, asked for and received EA stamp
  • 4/13/09 -- Married in New Orleans!!!!!!!!
  • 5/30/09 -- Filed AOS/AP/EAD
  • 6/1/09 -- AOS etc received in Chicago

Hello Kelland34,

Sounds like a cool adventure camping in Belgium.

Wow!

And now a loud road trip.

Perhaps you can crank up the music and drown out some of the car noise.

As far as that trip, I have only driven straight down and up from Chicago to the Panhandle and so I am not familiar with that road you are taking.

Ask me about the East Coast, or the West Coast or driving from the East to the West in the Northern part and then I can assist you. Hee, hee.

Enjoy your travels!

What are your driving plans - what routes? Going through Kentucky there are wonderful opportunities to see some great caves - Mammoth Caves is an example but it depends on your travel route - here is a link: http://www.mammothcave.com/

Atlanta proper has some great things to see and do - the Atlanta Zoo recently welcomed a new panda cub a week before the last one celebrated her 2nd birthday: http://www.zooatlanta.org/home.htm

It looks like your Road Atlanta race will be north east of Atlanta near the Georgia mountains. It is quite beautiful there and you should have great camping weather in October. There are some wineries in the area as well (Habersham comes to mind). You'll be about 60 miles northeast of us but quite close to where Karen and Joel live in the Georgia mountains. They should have some ideas of things available in the area. You might want to PM them.

Have fun!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Hi Trailmix and Everyone,

In answer to this question:

Are you the Canadian or the American Ant?

I'm both. Right now I'm the Canadian Citizen and the American Permanent Resident. Though I hope to become an American Citizen soon next year, which will make me "A Dual American Citizen and Canadian Citizen"....

And yes, I like travelling and visiting in both of these home countries.

Happy travels, everyone!

Ant (Enjoying travelling in America and in Canada...)

You could drive through St. Louis, and spend some time here. Make sure if you do, you let me know when you're coming and maybe we could get together! St. Louis has lots to see and do. Probably the most infamous claim to fame for St. Louis is the Arch, however there are also lots of other things to see and do here. We are home to the AB Brewery, largest in the US, however that was just sold to InBev, but there are free brewery tours. The St. Louis Zoo is wonderful, and free! The Art Museum is also free! Before you get to St. Louis, in S. Ill. you could partake in Cohokia Mounds State Historic Site of the largest prehistoric Indian city north of Mexico.

We had a wonderful time for a few days in Mammoth Cave Park in KY as Kathryn pointed you to a link. Some great tours if you get the right story teller guides. We had a replicated guided tour with hand held lanterns.

You could head over to NC before heading further south and take in the Biltmore estate in Asheville. It was an amazing site. You could spend all day there. The largest house in the US.

http://www.biltmore.com/

I'm sure I'm missing many many more. But there are a few ideas anyway!

I concur Carla.. ST. Louis zoo is incredible.. beats Altanta's zoo hands down IMO.. (Plus if it's free that's an incredible savings off of Atlanta's shameful ticket price(for what you get)...

Although I do hear that the Georgia aquarium is world class (but has world class ticket prices to match)http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/
