So they received my I 130 petition that I sent in just over a month ago. The lady said that everything looks fine, but I somehow left off page 4 of my hubby's g325A...so I will need to bring that when we get our interview in Toronto. As of now they are looking at booking interviews in November... so she said I should expect an interview Nov 7th to bring all original documents that I submitted with the petition... she said she will email me with the exact appt. info in the next few weeks.

Also to add... I just got an email from my boss at work and he said the Toronto consulate is looking into visiting our work and wants to know if there are any "services" we need...so I emailed that I have that petition and if they can review our documents when they come up to save us a trip going there... we'll see what happens with that one.

The consular (is that the correct term?? lol) from Toronto visited us a couple months ago and had lunch with a few of us... so this could be a good thing.

I thought all DCF'ers had their interview in Montreal, no matter which CDN consulate they submitted their paperwork at??

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

No its not for the real interview when you DCF in Toronto, you mail in the petition with copies of all the supporting documents, then they schedule an interview to see your orginal documents and then they forward the case to Montreal for the real interview...

I'm glad to have found another Toronto DCF'er - there doesn't seem to be too many out there. I actually haven't filed yet but I'm hoping someone can confirm that this is really the fastest way to go. It seems that the Toronto embassy takes longer to process the I130 than most others, and even requires an interview where most don't. If its taking 3 months, as in Reeena's case, just to process the I130, is it still faster than going the traditional non-DCF route?

Also, the embassy's website mentions that after approval the beneficiary still has to complete IV steps with NVC and then NVC sends the file to Montreal. Is this the same at all embassies? I thought the embassy sent the file right to Montreal?

I'm really interested to hear from anyone else doing DCF in Toronto!

I got another call from the embassy. We now have our appointment on the 7th of November for them to see the originals of all our documents. They received our I130 package on the 7th of August, so it will be a 3 month wait time for the I130...then yes we will have to wait for them to send our package to Montreal and then continue the process.

I too would like to hear more DCF through Toronto stories.

Good luck Tekkon.

Is the USA citizen a permanent resident of Canada tekkon?

Yes. well, sort of. I'm in a somewhat unique situation. We're just about finished with my immigration to Canada (I'm the USC). I'll go get my visa on Thursday and I'll officially land in Canada by the end of the month. So while I'll be a Canadian PR soon enough, I won't have the 6 month residency requirement until, well, 6 more months. I'm trying to figure out what would be quicker...waiting the 6 months and then DCF'ing through Toronto...or just starting the regular I130/IV process now in the States. I would love anyone's input on that!

I'm also confused by this wording on the Toronto Consulate's website:

"Beneficiaries of approved I-130s will receive IV instructions from: Department of State, National Visa Center (NVC), 32 Rochester Av, Portsmouth NH 03801-2909. After the beneficiary completes all required IV steps with NVC, NVC will send the beneficary's approved I-130 and IV file to Montreal..."

I thought that the whole point of DCF'ing was to bypass the NVC completely? I thought Toronto sent the forms right to Montreal, not the NVC? Or does DCF just bypass NVC for the I130 but then still use NVC for the actual IV application? If thats the case, then Toronto doesn't seem much faster than just filing the normal way in the US (about 3 months to approve the I130 either way, right?)

Or maybe I'm just reading things wrong.

Sorry for so many newbie questions- I really appreciate anyone's help!
