Gallup Daily: McCain 48%, Obama 43%

Nine percent undecided in latest average

PRINCETON, NJ --

The latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update finds John McCain continuing to lead Barack Obama, 48% to 43% among registered voters.

The Sept. 7-9 average -- spanning interviewing conducted Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday -- finds little substantive change in the shape of the race compared to earlier this week, although each of the two candidate's level of support has dropped a point compared to the Tuesday's reported average. Nine percent of registered voters say they are undecided, refuse to state their preference, say they will vote for neither McCain nor Obama, or indicate they are voting for another candidate.

The race has now entered a period where there will, no doubt, continue to be intense interest in the campaign, but in which there are no major planned events until the first presidential debate, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 26, at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. Along with their running mates, Obama and McCain will continue to campaign unabated during this time period and will be spending tens of millions of dollars a week on advertising and voter contact. However, the experience of the past summer suggests that voter support levels do not tend to change dramatically during periods of time in which there are no major campaign events. Additionally, it may take a few additional days before it is possible to determine if McCain's modest lead over Obama -- developed as a bounce out of the GOP convention -- will be sustained, or if it will fade. yep. having failed to win a single substantive argument, you're reduced to posting polling data.

a few weeks ago you said nothing when the situation was worse than reversed.

we'll know on Nov. 4.

This proves two things... if you throw enough mud (or manure) on the wall some of it will stick & the average voter is easily fooled.

I can see the desperation, your boy Barack is a LOSER! Who ya gonna call? Dr. Joyce Brothers

It's not desperation. It's fear. I am sure more than one dem has that sinking feeling in their stomache because they know they nominated the wrong person. This should be a year of stunning dem victories. What they will get is hearache.

Lol yea opinions (especially political ones) are like buttholes... everyone has one & they all stink! It's even worse on a forum, because you usually get the far left & far right & not a whole lot of the middle.

What I meant was, they are desperate to dig up dirt on Palin. The more they dig the deeper they will fall in the hole they are digging.

Its like a bad comedy!

McCain has pulled ahead because Palin gave a really good speech & lets face it she's a babe. What amazes me though is how incredibly stupid most Americans are, because McCain has pulled so much ####### that is so ridiculous that anyone with half a brain should be able see through it. Two recent examples are McCain's attempt to base his campaign on change & the controversy about the "lipstick on a pig" comment.

McCain saying his campaign is all about change is laughably transparent and ridiculous. The Obama campaign is based on change & McCain is obviously trying to steal this idea. I mean ####### over? Secondly anyone who spends a minute listening to what Obama said can conclude without a doubt that the "pig" he was talking about is McCain's policies & the "lipstick" is trying to repackage the same ####### & make it look nice. It wasn't remotely sexist and McCain knows this. McCain should apologize for making something out of absolutely nothing, not Obama.

As for GaryC and Rogue everyone is entitled to their opinions, but just like the Repuplicans you guys are long on rhetoric and short on actual facts. If you support the Republican's policies then by all means vote Republican, but people like you guys who bash liberals just for the sake of doing it are exactly the reason why this country is so polarized (and I'm not even a liberal, I'm an Independent). You can have a respectful disagreement with someone, but if you piss all over them & then want them to cooperate with you (this is exactly what the Bush administration has done over the past 8 years) don't expect much cooperation.

Fear you say? No, it's not fear... it's disappointment with the high percentage of Americans that form opinions & vote on sound bites, half truths, lies and rhetoric.
