Senate Advances Sweeping Immigration Bill

The Senate voted Wednesday to limit debate on election-year immigration legislation, clearing the way for final passage later this week of a bill that calls for tougher border security as well as an eventual chance at citizenship for millions of men and women in the country illegally.

[...]

Final passage would set the stage for a difficult negotiation with the House, which passed legislation last year that exposes all illegal immigrants to criminal felony charges.

[...]

... the Senate called for tougher employer penalties on businesses that hire illegal workers. The vote was 58-40.

Employers who do not use a new computerized system could be fined $200 to $600. The system would include information from the Social Security Administration, the Internal Revenue Service and Homeland Security Department.

There would be $20,000 fines for hiring illegal immigrants once the new screening system is in place, double the current maximum. Repeated violators could be sentenced to prison terms of up to three years.

So what does this mean? Can someone please explain in plain terms? Thanks!

The Senate has passed a bill which now has to be reconciled with the House enforcement only version.

This could take months, some have suggested nothing will happen until after the Novemeber elections. House is up for election.

Whatever comes out then goes to the President for signing.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Your dreaming man, you put five hundred lawyers in a room its a wonder they can get anything done. All they do is pass paperwork that institutionalizes goofy stuff like liability exemptions for Nuclear Power Stations. And now, illegal immigration. Other than that, its pretty much the wild wild west.

My two US Senators (Cornyn & Hutchison) are on record stating that they will not vote for this amnesty (no matter what lie it is called). There are other Senators from both parties that voted for the 1986 amnesty that have pledged to vote against this latest amnesty. Bird and Grassley so stated. That should tell you something. The Senate may get this joke (S.2611) passed, but it still has to go to the House where it will hit a brick wall. Hopefully the House will reject this amnesty nonsense and show the American People that enforcement credibility is the #1 priority instead of rewarding illegal aliens with permanent residency for breaking the law.

We don't need a repeat of the 1986 lies. S.2611 stinks. And not just because of the amnesty provisions. There are plenty of gremlins in this legislation that will prove to be harmful to most American workers and a future nightmare for taxpayers.

Kill this bill!!!

$20K for a company like WMart is nothing.. and the higher ups will do no jail time. so again, they havent really addressed the issue IMO.

Illegal aliens arrested in Edison

2:20 p.m.

EDISON (AP) … The U.S. Department of Homeland Security arrested 32 Indonesian fugitives here on Wednesday who had been previously ordered deported by

federal immigration judges, authorities said.

The department's Immigration and Customs Enforcement wing has detained the illegal immigrants pending their deportation back to Indonesia, said Michael Gilhooly, an agency spokesman.

Three more Indonesians who were also found to be in the country illegally were arrested in the pre-dawn sting on Wednesday, Gilhooly said.

The immigrants had not been living together, but in 35 separate places throughout Edison, Gilhooly said.

An investigation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has determined that some of the illegal immigrants colluded to hide their identities and locations and changed residences to evade federal authorities.

Just like spit in the ocean. 32 down 12-20 million to go.

They should nail the guys that are cutting my next door neighbor's yard right now. And while they are at it...they should raid the crew repairing the foundation on my neighbor's house 2 doors down.

My neighborhood is illegal alien central. No habla Ingles!

By far, this is my favorite part of the Senate Bill:

"The Senate voted (May 18th) to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was obtained through forged or stolen documents" Source

Now, the senate does understand that it is mainly do to financial burdons illegal immigration has caused that makes people want immigration reform, right?

So-any Senators that may read this, here's a multiple choice question:

The Social Security fund will

a ) Be funded for eternity. There is no limit to how much benifits people can receive.

b ) be exausted by 2041 with existing forecasted payees.

Remember, we voted for these people. At least people with the same names.
