Seems funny, I played softball for years, not one agy chick on the team, now later in life I dont know what happened to them, but we were teenagers and all of them boy crazy. I just dont believe your sexuality is determined by what sports you play. Sexuality is a choice.

Ok, maybe I have caused people to misunderstand what I am saying. Yes, I agree with you sowens, that sexuality is a choice. I do not believe that one can "catch the gay" from softball teammates. I was simply saying that friends can influence children to experiment and try new things, whether these things be other sports/drugs/new books/or having sex (whether or not this sex is had with members of the same sex or members of the opposite sex is irrelevant).

It is relevant- it's the difference between homosexuality and straightness.

I am just imagining someone pressuring a kid into reading a certain book then later pressuring the kid into having gay sex? It makes me laugh at how funny you are being!

I know what you mean jelti, I'm just trying to point out that stereo-typing is just that, and influences can be halted, i had friends that were into all sorts of things, and offered me to join, doesnt mean i did. I think we pretty much agree.

Honestly, have you ever been exposed to peer pressure? I'm assuming you have, since most of us have.

I'm not sure how else to respond to you. I'm making the best analogies that I can, considering the circumstances. Maybe they're not good ones? I dunno.

All I know is that yes, a friend can one day influence your reading material and the next day influence your choice of sexual partners, whether that be man or woman. It happens every day everywhere.

Yes, I think we do agree. Influences are just that...influences. Being influenced is not the same as being forced. We all have the capability to resist influence or go with it. Whatever floats our boats.

Oh my. When did I say peer pressure can turn someone gay?

Peer pressure can influence your CHOICE OF SEXUAL PARTNERS. It can influence whether or not you kiss a girl, kiss a boy, experiment, or have sex. Nowhere did I say peer pressure can TURN someone "GAY".

One cannot "catch the gay". It is not a bug or a disease.

Well this thread has gone way past advice for the OP so this is my bit.....

I wonder sometimes if homosexuality is not somewhat genetic. I have experimented sexually with females even though I prefer men and could never personally be in a serious relationship with a woman.....its purely sexual. My daughter is lesbian and one of my sons is bi. They were sexually abused but I do wonder if regardless of that abuse they may of been anyway. There are plenty that do not grow up gay because of sexual abuse. Coincidence perhaps but it does make me wonder if they got too many of my genes :P

GUYS!!!!!!!!

Does it matter at this point whether it's nature or nurture?

What's important here; the semantics of homosexuality or whether this 20 year old gets the support she needs from her family and that her mother can come to peace and move forward with her life?

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

Actually, the reason we went into the whole peer pressure thing is because Mom was afraid that her 20 year old daughter's friends may influence her younger 14 year old daughter to experiment with females. I don't think anyone was trying to say whether or not homosexuality is right or wrong (except for the troll), but I do agree that we have gotten off track...again. :(

The so call influencing of sexual partners as opposed to being gay or not is pretty gay itself. Sexual preference is what being gay and straight is all about! So if they can influence someones sexual preference, then they are actually influencing whether or not someone is gay or straight.

Peer pressure certainly does not apply to sexuality. If you try drugs because you are pressured it's because you don't know what they're like you've never tried them so that's understandable, not good, but understandable. With sexuality you cannot be influenced or pressured- you either like the same sex or you like the opposite sex. It's easy as pie.

And that's ok. We're allowed to disagree. ;)
