Didn't Jesus teach tolerance?

yes, jesus (pbuh) taught peace and goodness and turning the other cheek and not casting stones...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I thought Jesus taught acceptance and forgiveness.......did she miss that part in the bible? For someone to be preaching the bible then to turn around and say the whole world would burn in hell......and what does the davinci code have to be with offering support for someone who has a gay child and feels they need help. As for if i will burn in hell, well i'm catholic.....i just confess my sins....its like a big etch a scetch... all gone

Jesus forgives if you are truely sorry and ask for forgiveness.

The grace of God is powerful and wonderful.

You children may not be gay, but will they be literate??

How can anyone make sense of this post?

Also...from the small bit I DID get...who "encourages" their children to be whores or drug addicts...where was that in this thread again? Must have missed it.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Jelti, did you make a concious choice as to finding men attractive? Just curious

Being attracted to men or women is not a choice. I have been attracted to women. I have been attracted to men. My choice lies in what actions I allow to stem from that attraction.

So you're saying you're bisexual? Awesome!

I havent read the entire thread yet - just the first few pages - so - forgive me if this has been said before - also I *AM* a mom of a girl - tho not as old as the OPs.

First of all I can understand not liking her 'butch' friends - thats probably nothing to do with their sexual orientation - you just don't like them or the way they dress. That's 100% normal and as likely to happen if your daughter was straight.

Some of MY pals when I was 20 had pierced everything and tats, and had spiky hair. My parents wisely held their own counsel but they didn't invite them over for dinner either. They were however polite to them.

My dad said 'they are YOUR friends, not mine, and they all seem respectful kids'

They weren't druggies or crims (something he probably would NOT have been so sanguine about) - but they did look 'different'.

If it was MY daugheter who was gay - well I wouldn't really care.

I love her

She is part of me. I know you love your daughter too.

Perhaps you are scared because of prejudices she may face - but people face prejudices over pretty much any differences - be it hair color, skin color, choice of music or choice of dress.

I've always told my kid that gay is just another way of living - no better no worse. I don't want her to become one of the stone-throwers when she is older (or now) just as I don't want her to be racist.

If she had a sibling, it wouldn't bother me if she hung out with my older child's friends PROVIDING they were trustworthy people.

You can't 'make' someone 'turn' gay by association.

I've had, years ago, a few bi and gay friends but I've always been a straight arrow myself. My lifestyle is not theirs and vice versa.

If you show your daughter love and support, as Im sure you will once you get over the shock (and it IS a shock as its not the life YOU envisioned for her) then only good things can come of it I am sure

I do wish you al the best - and there are many support groups (both relgious and secular) who support parents of gay kids until they accept (even if not agree with) their life styles.

To get back to the actual topic at hand, I've read through the whole thread, diversions and moronic inserts and all...

To me, the sexuality thing isn't the issue. You have a valid concern about your 14yo daughter, but not because she's hanging around lesbians. She's at a stage in her life where she's trying to be 'grownup' but she's nowhere NEAR it. She needs firm limits and boundaries and I'm sure you know that, which is why you're concerned. Your house, your rules... which means stuff like letting you know where she is at all times and who she's with and making sure she's home before whatever curfew you see fit to impose etc.

It sounds like Daughter #1 is having her teenage rebellion a bit late... it's a shame, but it's her life and one day she'll wake up and smell the roses and realise she's throwing her life away... and then she'll grow up and really become an adult and find her life partner. For now she's got to learn the hard way.

You are asking for advice .. so here it is. Support your daughters .. both of them .. regardless of whether they are gay or straight .. ESPECIALLY if they are gay. If your daughter is gay, then she needs you now more than ever. If you cannot turn to your family, then who can you go to?

Thank you all (most of you that is) for your comments and concerns. I cannot believe this thread started a little over 6 hours ago and has over 160 replies and on page 11. It's quitting time at work and my head is fried for everything. Just wanted you all to know:

#1 - I LOVE both my daughters, period.
