I think it's a great point that Obama is making. Changing words around and making them all pretty does not mean that change will be happening if McCain wins.

But since I'm not as eloquent as he is, I prefer to say that "it's all the same ####### with a different smell." I don't want to smell the same ####### for another 4 years, that's for sure.

The McCain campaign quickly struck back convening a conference call with reporters and former Mass. Gov. Jane Swift to paint the common expression as a sexist jab at Palin. "As far as I know there is only one candidate in this contest who wears lipstick," Swift said.

I have to agree with Swift on this one. Not a smart thing for Obama to say IMO.

But it was ok for McCain to say the exact same little phrase last year when criticizing a healthcare plan put forward by Hilary Clinton?

Well, "put lipstick on a pig" is a viable expression and gets used in all sorts of contexts, so no, I don't think that McCain was implying that HRC is a pig.

Given Palin's recent remarks about pitbulls and lipstick, I think Obama's use of the expression is too coincidental to not be an intended jab at Palin. Just the way I see it.

So, personalities will out. McCain is riding on the personality of Ms Palin who is turning out to be very popular and the Dems have discovered that what they thought was a vote for change was in fact a vote for personality and Barack doesn't cut the mustard against Sarah.

Interestingly, I think the Dems should cut the 'it's not fair the GOP keep slandering us on things that aren't true' It does make them sound whiney. I don't think they can go for personal attacks against the GOP candidates either, when they do, they just lose their own base and the GOP supporters laugh. They have only one hope really, and that is to stick with the policies, keep the messages short, sharp and hopefully meaningful to ordinary Joe Voter.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Excellent question! Besides - to my understanding, this is a frequently used expression throughout Washington.

IMO - let's stick to the issues. The GOP has been skirting "issues" for over a week. Enough about your Biography. Tell us how you plan to move this country forward!

ALL things work TOGETHER for GOOD!

Agreed. Just when I thought this election couldn't get anymore ridiculous, I woke up this morning and heard this nonsense. I'm tired of it and want to hear something of substance. Like policies. Like ideas.

yeah like that is going to happen..

it always seems that US politics just turns into a mud-slinging fest... I think because it drags on for so long that people get tired and restless and just start making ####### up...

Presidential election reform - now that's a ticket I would definitely support and how!

yeah they should adopt Canada's method and hold a election in less then 2 months....

I see the same thing happen sometimes when people take 1 or 2 years to plan a wedding..... they start going a bit crazy at the end....

Hmmm. With every post you're helping to confirm my suspicion that Nader has been a secret GOP operative since 2000.

I would say the same thing no matter who said it. I think not admitting that I think it is sexist just because Obama said it would be hypocritical of me.

I've never witnessed that, but I have heard about it  I can see the comparison and yes, around 2 months should give enough time for people to 'get to know' the candidates and save an absolute fortune in money that could have gone to help so many people. I find the spending absolutely ridiculous - and all on these ridiculous attack ads.

I don't know anything about Canadian elections, but do the candidates get such an easy ride as they do here in terms of not having to spell out what they stand for?

to be honest I never followed Canadian politics much.. I just remember them being over and done with quickly...

yeah the money wasted on these campaigns is crazy....
