Stephen, taking liberties? Come on, you would like people to post only the way you believe a thread should go staying "on topic" but threads, like conversations just don't work like that. They do go off on tangents, they do have humour and they go in unpredictable directions. You are at liberty at any point to do what you have been, ask people to stay on the topic you want the 'conversation' to go on and people might heed you, and they might not. They might not because they are being obtuse or they might not because the 'conversation' had taken a turn that they are interested in.

Now, if you want to take exception to the word 'dictate' that's up to you, again it seems to me to show that you are taking this maybe a tad too seriously? If you are not, then fair enough, but that's how it seems.

maybe steven's been watching too many obama speeches and now steven wants to tell us how to write.

more of that "change" apparently........

I wouldn't listen. It's an argument of convenience. Don't drag threads off topic unless they bash a Republican. In which case, attack the people who posted it. But don't attack FOX news when it's the source of garbage!

Hence, why this is a bad idea Steven. :P

Actually it has a lot to do with the thread. One is attacking with a particular statement and the other one did the same thing.

Sounds like they each are doing the same thing.

Sure does. One is based in reality and the other one on what some folks want to define as real.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

As for people staying on topic, It'd actually be really nice if people didn't sink to insults towards people who don't agree with them. That's what annoys me the most. I haven't really been insulted myself and I try not to insult others, but I see a bunch of people doing it to each other all the time. Well just because I wish it didn't happen doesn't mean it won't happen. All I know is respect is lost for people who use insults all the time because someone doesn't agree with their political views.

I agree. Many of the political threads sound like two spouses bickering with one another.

Husband: Honey, I thought you mailed off the house payment last week?

Wife: Don't honey me! You forgot to drop off that package I asked you to take the post offices back in April!

....and around and around it goes.

I honestly thought you wanted to change how VJ & politics is. Yet that same day, you asked for respect on both sides - & you have shown none.

Even in this post, you preach the high road while in any number of other threads today, you have insulted & attacked.

Can't have it both ways Steven.

Dev, you have a unique perspective on what is an insult and what is legitimate criticism of someone's argument. I suppose everyone is going to have their own tolerance level as to when a discussion has crossed the line of civility when arguing. I've suggested that we at least try to remain on topic for the election threads based on my own observation of most of the threads turning into the same convoluted argument repeated over and over. By staying on topic, we can avoid a lot of the incivility that has been going on, IMO.
