I find since I've grown shyer and gone away to colllege that I talk to my real freinds less as I am having less in common with them now days with things to discuss. I maybe have one real old time friend that I call daily. Most my friends don't discuss theologically things, or news things, or political things with me, or be real supportive of my marriage. I lost a lot of friends over there. We've reach our bounds and comfort zones with each other.

VJ offers a wide array of people to discuss things with including immigration and regional related spouse things that I have no one else who I can talk with about that except for here. There is 1-2 mena married couple where I live but my spouse isn't here for us to do stuff with them yet so we don't talk either.

I think part of VJ's purpose has been made for those waiting for their loved ones.

That trend tends to be when the SO gets here members either disappear all together or check in from time to time because the bonds they have here are so compelling. Some take breaks for a few weeks, some a few months popping back in to give up dates and to check up dates, some take a break for a year and come back after awhile because they forgot how much they missed it and the friendships they have here. Just like most of us met our spouses online so too have we found a community of online friends. This is such and amazing and unique world and time that we are living in today when we can send text msgs to our loved ones in a instant around the globe. (L)

Preach on sister O!! I learned that lesson in the military at 17, many years ago. Out of sight, out of mind, literally. Here is the key; you change, they don't! No matter if it is your SO, college, or something else, you will find them doing the same old things in the same old places, day after day. They will not understand you, but don't worry. You just grow up faster than they do. So save your rolodex. You may want to call some of them some day.

I sure appreciate this site. I guess I don't feel addicted, more like co-dependent... hahahhahahaha I always know I can get some advice, feedback, tips, or whatever when I post something here. I have belonged to other groups but none as helpful and responsive as this one.

I've often wondered who went to the trouble and expense to create a site that is so helpful but doesn't sell anything (that I've noticed)? Anyone know?

Somehow I think that next month when my SO arrives I might need advice more than I do now. Understanding the USCIS and my SO in a new country might be equally as puzzling at times... But at least I LOVE him and only TOLERATE the USCIS...

For now I have to figure out what to DO with my SO when he gets here and I have to work 50+ hours a week. I hope he likes to watch TV and take day time naps.... :sleepy: He's never see a working wife in his whole life... so I'm sure it's going to be a shock to his system to see me when I'm not on vacation and catering to him like his Mom...hahahahahahahaha

Might be on my way to becoming a VJ addict...

He goes by "Steve" and he's member #1. He pops in from time to time.

Jezakallahkhair Ukti for your good wishes... I have been reading the Forum for "new life in america" but it only freaks me out more.... This not my first marriage to an Egyptian, just the first time I married one who didn't LIVE HERE... (and has never BEEN here)...

I think a thread called "what to do with them once you get them" might be a good one... As an Egyptian man he is so focused on being able to support me here that the tension is going to be so thick you can cut it with a knife until he gets a job and I am CLUELESS as to what KIND of job he will find here without any transferable skills. Maybe I can teach him to knit or crochet until he gets a job.... he just quit smoking on the first day of Ramadan, ma'sha'allah, (takbir!) so I'll have to keep his hands busy WHEN I'M NOT HOME.... :jest::dance::lol::hehe::blush:

I'm an ex-VJ addict. Now that hubby is here, I read more than I post, and don't do much of either. I haven't really made any substantive friendships here, never spoken to anyone on the phone or visited, don't IM off the boards. or anything that gives me a compelling emotional connection to the MENA board. Still, I appreciate the significant help I got from people who took their time to help me, and it would be selfish not to extend that help to others. So, I lurk and PM if I see a need I believe I can fill.

I wonder the same thing.... This is one reason why we have decided even if he gets the visa in late December or January that he won't actually be coming here until summer(I will be going to Nepal after the end of the spring semester and we will spend one last long vacation together before POE). I am also working extra hours and racking up tons of comp time so I can take time off to be with him when he gets here. He will have the GC soon after POE because he will have an IR-1 at that point but in between job hunting he will have time to explore the neighborhood and the city while the weather is nice - thank God he doesn't need to learn to drive!!! We will be in a tight living situation while we are both living on my income so I am sure he will get stir-crazy after a while.
