Has anyone seen this movie? I just watched it from my netflix queue. When I saw it I thought of many of us who are married to non USC's and all the things that they face and a lot of the myths.

This movie covers a journey of Sudanese refugees dubbed "The lost Boys" because their parents were tragically killed in the ongoing civil war in Sudan. It briefly covers their life in Sudan in a refugee camp, but moreso when they get to America and follows them through a lot of the hurdles that they must overcome for their own survival in their new home-such trivial (well to us anyways) as to how to work an electrical stove all the way to finding a job and even covers one guy getting the stress back home about sending money back. It covers the culture shock of all work and no play. It also covers the lies that they were told to or that they felt had been told to tehm by the agencies that helped them. Maybe they lied or maybe the new immigrants did not understand that in America, schools do not wait for you and jobs are not as pelntiful and you've got to love this one....GOLD DOES NOT FALL FROM TREES;)

One guy was promised he would ahve a shot at going to school, but no one would help him. So he took matters into his own hands despite the odds he faced.

I think that this movie is good for our non USC husbands (or wives even maybe) to watch this! They will see what adapting to America will be like for them, and maybe even be able to understand more because these are people coming from a different country as well. we, as American citizens, can explain to them til we are blue in the face about how things are. But since the US government wont let them jump on a plane yet and get a taste of it, let them watch teh movie!

And on a personal note, I know now that YMCA has a division for working with refugees. (from teh movie). Any other organizations that do that as well? I've been wanting to get involved with helping them but I don't know where to start.....and a lot of the jobs are only for people with degrees. I'm thinking more of volunteer work because I already have a job to keep me occupied.
