Filling out AR-11 Form change of address

My first question is that the form states "I am in the united states as a : visitor, student, perm.resident, other" I know I need to mark other because I'm neither of the rest so what to I put that i'm here on a K-1 or that i'm waiting for my aos?

My second question is that it asks for work or school addy that I am attending, I am attending neither so I can just put N/A in this section right?

My third question is where it says port of entry, do I just have to type in the airport in which I entered the United States?

Fourth question, It asks if I'm not a perm. resident when does my stay in the u.s. expire ... what do I put here if I came over on a K-1 visa last year and waiting upon my aos?

Thanks All

put "K1 - Adjusting Status" for why you're in the US

put "none" for school addy

I think you can just put "indefinite - adjusting status" for the last one.

remember your USC spouse needs to do the I-865 address change form as well.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

That's a very good reminder. I just went through this and didn't know about the I-865 until someone mentioned it on another forum. When filling out that form I noticed it had some pretty ominous warnings about the consequences of not filing it in a timely manner.

I also learned that filing the AR-11 does NOT change your address in the USCIS database. A reasonable person might think this was the purpose of that form but this is the federal government so reason goes out the window. As for the purpose of that form I have no idea what it is but it does not really report your new address to USCIS. You have to call the national service center to do that.

also, on the I-8645 change of address form, when he fills out information about me (the sponsored alien) do we put in my maiden name or my now new married name??

Thanks guys, umm so are you suggesting I need to phone the service center as well to inform them of the change?

Yes, you have to call the service center. Like I said, the AR-11 form doesn't have anything to do with changing your address in the USCIS database. You will actually learn this when you call the service center. It's in a recorded message you will hear while you wait forever on the phone (my wife waited an hour and a half before she gave up one day). They said the AR-11 form is required to comply with some law but it doesn't change the address in their database. Go figure.

P.S. - Somebody on another forum also suggested that I should call the local service center where my case is at. I didn't do that but maybe I should because we are still getting mail addressed to the old address several weeks after changing the address.

I put my wife's married name. Pretty sure that was correct but the A number will identify your case any way.

I think we put "K-1 Visa Holder"

N/A or none should be fine

Yes, the city of airport in which you entered the US (we put "Los Angeles, CA" because he flew into LAX)

and we put "AOS Pending"

I hope that helps! Like they said, fill out an I-865 for the sponsor, and mail it to the addresses notated on the forms as well as any offices where you have pending cases at. Also, call the 1-800 Number and change address with them and just to be safe, check with them in a couple weeks to make sure it's all changed.

Good luck!

When you say call the local service center where the case is being processed, does that mean the original local center or the one at the new address?

Thanks.

Hey all, not to piggyback on this topic but my husband and I will be moving at the end of this month.

So, to have it straight, I need to fill out the AR-11, and I-865? Then call the USCIS and for me, Boston service centre?

Anyone else? My mom? sister? lol, just kidding.

Do I have it right? Those 3 things? Fill out both forms, mail in and USCIS centre and Boston centre?

Also, how long before I move should I be sending them? How long has it taken them to get things in the system? We move July 15.

Thanks, what a helpful topic, and lots of good answers!

the AR-11 form needs to be sent to USCIS within 10 days of the immigrant moving. The I-865 needs to be sent within 30 days of the sponsor moving, and if not, there could be a $$$$ fine.

To successfully change address, from the Dept of Overkill:

-file AR-11 as required by law. This does not change your *mailing* address, but it informs USCIS where you might have been, at one time. Just do it, it's the law http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/address.htm

How Do I Report a Change of Address to the USCIS?

AR-11 does not generally generate a NOA receipt. Send by trackable mail.

-Copy of AR-11 to any LOCAL or district office where you might have a file. Include a letter saying: change my mailing address

-copy of AR-11 to any Service Center where you might have a file. Include a letter saying: change my mailing address

-Phone call to 1-800 MisInformation line with the request: please change my mailing address

-file I-865 for USC Sponsor as required by law. You *may* get a NOA for this one and it *might* change the Sponsor's mailing address. Or not.

-file Change of Address and Mail Forwarding with the USPS. Your USCIS mail *might* get forwarded to your new addy. Or returned to USCIS, you never know. Unfortunate side effect: the PO sells your new address to bulk mailers and you are now back on every junk mailing list under the sun.

Do-it-yourself: Stop junk mail, email and phone calls

30 days later

-Follow up phone call to 1-800 to see if address change is captured.

-Cross fingers and keep an eye on processing times and when you expect to be contacted. Don't let it go for ages and then say 'dude, where's my case?'.©
