This is something that scares me as well. I spoke to my ex-husband and he already stated he will allow for the kids to move down with me. BUT, he wants to make sure I have a good job lined up and a house (even though my new husband would have a decent job). I guess at this point I Just have to accept it so I can have my kids there with me a year or so later.

And it scares the ####### out of me if he gets a pickle up his ####### later on down the road and changes his mind.

Be honest and forthright about how the K1 process works - you won't be working for about 3 months - you'll be at home which is a bonus to the kids as they're getting acclimated, right? I would say make plans for visits (explain of course that it will be about 3 months until they get AP and can actually return up there to visit).

Be aware that once you go back to work, you may not have vacation right away so your personal ability to visit may be hindered (I myself have had this problem because I hadn't accrued enough to go back at Christmas, although my daughter wanted to during the school break). Doesn't mean you can't take the kids and drive back if it had to be done, right? You can easily prove you've got accomodation that is similar to what you currently have (enough bedrooms etc). If I were you, I'd include the kids in teh discussion of how this will all pan out - best advice I can give in hindsight. And I don't even have an ex who's involved!
