What did Senator Obama really say?

I'm pretty sure the crowd laughed because they thought it was funny/a half-joke to hear Obama using colloquial figures of speech that way. It was a little moment of humor while discussing a serious topic.

I don't think the audience was making some obtuse Sarah Palin connection.

Stuff like this makes me feel like McCain's camp is really reaching.

I got you, Obama is too dumb to know what he said could be misconstrued as an attack but hot damn, his audience is S-M-A-R-T!

exactly!

That seems like a perfectly reasonable explanation to me.

Reason is something not allowed when a Presidential campaign and its support structure actively seek to discuss non-issues.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

It seems abundantly clear to me that a few people are making a big deal out of things like this because for them this election is less about the issues but more about personalities. And very personal to boot.

Obama didn't mean to hint at Palin but its funny as hell that it sounded that way. The roar of laughter from the crowd was enough to make me love Obama all over again. :)

yeah I really don't think Obama meant it that way but I think the crowd thought he did...

we should get mad at the crowd for being sexist then

So hundreds of audience members clearly knew what Obama was implying but Obama was too dumb to know it as well?

You just proved the point McCain is making.

my point was that Obama wasn't implying anything..... but the crowd from the sounds of it, may have misinterpreted what he said... or they just laughed because they thought what he said was funny and true... *shrugs*

Keep on proving it, Marilyn.

who knows if his audience even thought that.... who knows maybe after the fact he thought it could have misconstrued....

lot of people say things and later they are like, "shoot, I wonder if they thought I meant something else."

I know I have those moments sometimes

This is what it all boils down to:

"We've got an energy crisis," Obama said at a campaign event where he had planned to focus entirely on education policy. "We have an education system that is not working for too many of our children and making us less competitive. We have an economy that is creating hardship for families all across America. We've got two wars going on, veterans coming home not being cared for -- and this is what they want to talk about."

McSame's campaign wants to talk about ANYTHING but the issues. They know they'll lose if they do that. So they invent phony controversies (right out of Rove's playbook) to distract the MSM and the public. And people like Gary, illumine, & Charles! eat it right up.

I had a bad feeling when W. got the Presidency, and that bad feeling was borne out. God save us if McSame gets elected.

How's the economy Mr. Bush?

How's the banking sector Mr. Bush?

How are gas prices Mr. Bush?

How's our national debt Mr. Bush?

How is our reputation as a nation Mr. Bush?

Have we invaded any sovereign countries Mr. Bush?

Have our intelligence agencies performed well Mr. Bush?

Have we preserved our Constitutional rights Mr. Bush?

Have we preserved our natural resources Mr. Bush?

Final question:

Who are YOU voting for Mr. Bush?

While they deny it. Which does beg the question once again... why? Denial tends to cover up some very silly, yet nasty things.

Putting lipstick on a pig... it is still a pig! What if he would have said putting lipstick on a monkey? I don't get it. Are we making something out of nothing .. or nothing out of something?

America, you make the call!

Well pouring perfume on a pig was used in a movie I saw recently - but "lipstick" is the more common expression.

Yes, it is a common expression.

And it was made in a conversation that had nothing to do with Sarah Palin.

THE PEOPLE don't care. They assume that Obama also has secret closet powers of subliminal suggestion on top of all the other closet hobbies he has. He clearly intended to refer to Mrs. Palin.

Democrat lies!

People always make connections or interpret whatever suits their purpose. So believe what you want and that goes for everyone. I'd rather have a conversation about something more substantial than trying to pin everything that someone may or may not have meant as a sly attack on a lady who can clearly take care of herself. Honestly, it doesn't make a difference either way. Gov. Palin doesn't need rescuing or saving because she is a very capable politician. Her record as a strong conservative speaks for itself, which is why the base is fired up about her. The problem is that now everyone wants to paint Gov Palin as the victim since their have been sexist attacks against her. It's a tough game no matter who you are and the stakes are high in this close election so I would just get used to anything and everything because you probably are going to see often up until the election. Plus, this is her first introduction to the national scene. So whether the media, Sen Obama, The Obama Camp, the Barrack Supporters, or some wacky independent, you can expect the worse because it's crunch time.

And that’s my five cents, if anyone wants to give me my change… I’ll be around

Cheers…

I wish I had a larger clap icon, SU.

All Palin has are a collection of views that straddle the more right, right-wing element of the Republican Party, it still falls within the realm of politics as usual.

Of course, I've been saying it since all these bizarre attacks started coming out... it only benefits the McCain campaign to do so without having to do any busy work on issues that have a good size of the population in crutches (if they can afford 'em).

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
