Big Bang Theory Test

Went home for lunch and my wife was talking to her brother in Odessa. I guess the big news is that the Swiss are firing up a nuclear collider to test the big bang theory of the creation of the universe. From what my wife says, it sounds like they are afraid the world will explode if this test is successful.

Anyone want to comment? I could only find a small news item so far and wonder if anyone is worried.

I'm not. I figure when the Swiss are finished, they'll have the finest timed watch ever created.

Gee, thanks a lot! Here I was having a perfectly fine day with nothing to worry about and you tell me THIS! :)

By the way, J. Robert Oppenheimer speculated the same thing could happen when they tested the first atomic bomb. There was actually some mathmatical equation, far beyond the balancing the checkbook kind, that indicated the atmosphere would ignite at the anticipated temperature the bomb would produce.

Oh well. Another thing to worry about! :)

I read the same story, oh well if it's time then it's time. I'm a little more concerned about the Russian's testing the international communities resolve.

No longer in the hands of the USCIS, for my wife at least, next up MIL.

I have to wonder if those worried that this experiment will blow up the world are more concerned that it will further disprove creationism and are using it as a cover. :innocent:

Well they were suppose to have the test today and we are still here. I guess it didn't destroy the world. That's just great, now I have to get work done. You just can't depend on anything anymore.

The test was a success. The worry was that it could cause small black holes to form.

Hadron Collider

The test was quite pricey too, around $531million for construction.

The $531 million is what the U.S.A. invested. The total cost I think was $3.8 billion. That's one expensive physics tester.
