^ Aye, good point. Might be useful as a guide, but no substitute for real, genuine legal advice from a real, genuine attorney.

get a freakin' atty!!! i know i've mentioned on here before, that geoff and i were separated for almost 2 yrs because i was going through my divorce. take your time and do it correctly while you have the time.

i know you want to be together, but don't scrimp at this point! i fought my ex, retained my l'il pension, and was awarded FULL legal/physical custody. thanks to geoff being the most wonderful, patient man on the planet ... that i was able to get all that. we wanted to do what was right for our family now ... rather than rush to be together now and pay for it in the end.

good luck, hun!! :luv:

Yep .... I think we always knew she wasn't just going to do this the easy way... on the positive side at least she is doing SOMETHING  we have grown weary of her stringing us along...we were just a source of income for her.....well now the money will go towards a good lawyer

Ok everyone, as a military retiree myself and i have read up on this cause my ex can come after my retirement, here is how it goes.

First the military dont get a retirment it is legally called a retainer so it can be given to the ex in a divorce.

Each state and for that matter each case is different, I do not belive that there is any law or rule when decidiing how much the ex will get.

The Navy recommends that the courts follow what they call the 10 10 rule.

you have to be married a min of 10 years (it does not matter how long there lived together, so if they did seperated they are still married)

and 10 years have to be when they are in the miltary, those are the two recommendations for the ex to get 50%, the judge is free to give less.

so basically there is no law it all depends on the judge and the case good luck and i hope that it works out.
