I applied for and received my SS card a few months ago -- before we married -- under my maiden name.

I've since legally changed my name (to my married name) by adding on my husband's surname.

I've applied for and received my AP and EAD with my new legal married name. We are still waiting on approval of my I-465.

I would like to maintain consistency on all my USA legal documents (and eventually Canadian as well) so would like to know if I can walk into a SS office now with my EAD and request the name change on my SS card, or must I wait until I receive my conditional GC?

The only documents I have right now with my new married names are my AP and EAD.

TIA,

J of Team J and B

You can go to SSA and facilitate the name change. Since you have EAD in the new name, SSA will be much more amenable to it. However, when you do get your GC you will need to make one more trip to SSA to update your immigration status with them and have them remove the "restriction" language from your card.

YMMV

Thanks for the quick reply, fwaguy.

Can I just wait until I receive my conditional GC and make one trip if that's the case then?

Yes - can wait until then. Wait as long as you like.
